Anyone ever have a problem like this? I'm going to be creating a 1973 era Amtrak Coast Starlight for my railroad. I purchased an awesome set of Kato CB&Q E8's to paint for Amtrak. I recieved them today, and they must be some of the sweetest engines I own. Just gorgious. The painting on these is some of the best I've seen. I just cannot bring myself to paint them I'm thinking of getting another a unit to paint instead. One more engine I probably don't need. How many have run into this problem?
I purchased some inexpensive SD-9s at a swap meet. I liked the road names (D&RGW and CB&Q ) on the units, but I really wanted another road name (BN). I decided to purchase some undecorated body shells and paint the undecs the way I wanted. Now, I just swap body shells when I want to change eras, or take pics of the units in different livery creating the illusion of having more locos than are actually in inventory.
Me, me, me. I did, I did. Kato Bullet - I want to paint it shiny black. I think I'll order another one just so i can. Con Cor ATSF War Bonnet U50 - Was gonna paint it in a Grey and Grandure. it is just tooo nice. Oh well.
Hey, I did the same, with the same engine.I was buying every E-8 I could get my hands on. I was painting them into Erie Lackawanna. That was until that silver CB&Q showed up.TYhat black & red stripe on the silver looks so good, I couldn't bring myself to change it.So,now I have it as a leased unit running the lead on of my many "name"trains .
I like Doofus' idea of extra body shells - very practical. Personally, I'm a fan of repainting, if for no other reason than to have a name or number that nobody else does.
I agree Eagle: I love painting the locomotives. These two I just can't bring myself to do it to though.
