As some of you know I am having fun with this old Snappy thingy I bought. I just wish the quality was better. Barb posted a triple header, so not to be outdone, here is a frozen video frame from a triple-header at Steamtown in 1995, the 2317, 3254 and 425.
And, more fun at Steamtown '95, the 261 leaving the station on an excursion, and the 261 and 425 running side by side.
NICE NICE NICE Fitz, how about this for steam power: http://abpr.railfan.net/august98/08-06-98/icrrcty.jpg [ 12 February 2002, 02:12: Message edited by: LadySunshine ]
Barb, that is a REALLY nice shot. Night time, five engines, great lighting, I love the rails illuminated. And Illinois Central, too.
Yeah, and the best thing about it is they arent those dreaded diesels. I tell you what, steam engines are so much fun to work on.
ValveGear welcome to the Trainboard, if you love steam engines this site will make you very happy. Just go through each link and you will find a mix of yesterday and today. Enjoy: http://www.railfan.net/railpix/ABPR/
Barb and Fitz ... thanks for the great photos! Valvegear .. I hope you don't mean the maintenance part of working on a steam locomotive! LOL ... that's the dirtiest, greasiest, hotest and heaviest work I have to do at the Yreka Western ... but pulling the throttle and whistle cord makes it all worth while Fitz .. what are you using to take your photos with .. regular film or digital? We should be able to figure out something for you to do to correct the quality rendition of your pics.
My friend, I do not mind needle-scaling, removing flues, polishing rods, and all the other maintanence and restoration work that a steam locomotive requires. I am of the younger generation, and I want to see this survive into the next century as well. It does me good to learn how to work on Iron Horses such as these. I am probably one of the few teens that enjoys this stuff, but heck, I like it, and am willing to do it. You just tell me what to do, i'll do it. I love steam locomotives!!!!
Bill, I'm using a Snappy, older technology device used to capture a still shot from a video. Coupled with my ignorance of running the camcorder at normal speed to get the best quality, the quality just isn't there on these old ones. Some of my newer videos produce better results. The videos themselves look much better when run. Of course, I don't have stills of the stuff I got on video, so just trying to put some new stuff up. Hayes, I'm glad you are into steam. Keep up the good work back at the Spencer shops and maybe someday we'll have another Shay race. Sure like to see one run side by side.
Valvegear .. It's good to see some young folks keeping the tradition going with steam I sure wish you lived out here. We'd put you to work Fitz .. yep! Old stuff just can't cut it like the new technology. Maybe Santa will bring you a digital camera this year
Hey Guys, thanks for the support. I want steam to survive into the 22nd Century too, even if it requires some of the less glamourous jobs in railroading, because me and some of my friends wouldnt mind doing them, because the rewards are numbered in the billions. Its always good to get involved like this, and I am glad that I have the support of many. Anyways, thanks again guys. As for something else, I have heard from John Rimmasch today, and things are going pretty well at the Heber Valley during their Olympic Debut. Although they had some mishap with the paint on a side of a coach, it has been going well. Scott Lindsay and the rest of the NN crew must be a big help too, so I am excited to hear about this. Anyways, talk to ya'll later. From the land where steam once reigned supreme(NS Program), even after the age of steam had ended, it has become a place where no excursions happen at all. It sure was enjoyable while it lasted. Anyways, thanks
