The SP engine is derailed. I remember reading somewhere about a Kalmbach staffer who would always derail one axle on all the model photos he made.

Cool! I want to look into lighting too. Right now I am waiting on an order of 15 CT decoders, and another order of 4 CT decoders and 3 GP35 traction tire axles from Oliver. He does some really fantastic work with his lighting kits too!

How much do Oliver charge on the traction tires Robert??

I also like lighting, but the lights on my models turns off each time the train looses contact with the track, so i dont bother using light too much. (only a problem with the lenz silver and uhlenbrock)

I think the problem may lie in the fact that i use the old time light bulbs from märklin.. I`ll think i upgrade it to some LED`s..

BTW.. Jürg i want that SP engine!!! I just looks soo great!

Slambo caught it before me, but I'll say it anyways...

"S-P Detector, milepost two-two point six, dragging equipment. From head of train, third axle, north rail. Train speed one-seven miles per hour. Temperature, minus twelve degrees. Detector out."
    :p;)

Hey, what's the big idea!?! This is the Z-scale thread, not the HO!! :teeth:Just kidding! Now that is some great modeling when you have to not only do a double take, but stare at it for a while!!:eek:mg::cool:

Looks very nice and to think this is Z. I have recently been working on lighting myself. I have a few posts that describe/show how I did it. But in my case, it is N Scale and structures, not cars or locomotives.

Keep up the good work and keep the photos coming.

The derail is probably intentional so that way the engine would still pick up electricity and stand in one place. Even if it was not intentional it still sounded like a good reason.

That's a very good reason Mr. X! Thanks for the hint. :)
On another note, I must say that the Geep has a DCC Decoder so no derailment is necessary to take pictures with lights on. :) I did not remember that you guys has Eagle-Eyes. Cool!

Let me be the first to ask for more pictures, and also ask if Oliver does anything with AZL SD40-2 and C44-9 lighting? I sure could go for some lights in my AZL's.

D&RGW 6011 looks amazing! It would have crossed one of these steel bridges, while hauling the Royal Gorge on the Tennessee Pass line; near Princeton, CO IIRC.
    Very nice!

Okay, now for the next question: Does Oliver have drop-in lighting units for any of these locos, or do I need to send them all to him? I'm REALLY interested.......

    Lights

    Hello to you all,

first of all, sorry for my english, it's only school based.

I have just finished the SD75, DCC, high- and low beam for the headlights in both directions and (of course....) working ditch-lights.
If my son (9) would lend me his digicam I would take a small video of the ditch-lights, may tonight when he's asleep.....
If you're interested in modifying your locos please contact me (esp. for pricing) at info@passmann.com
I need the locos here at my workbench but you can also buy a new one include DCC and lights.

@Jürg: war mir gar nicht bewusst schon so viele Loks für dich umgebaut zu haben!

    Best,

    and thanks for your interest,

    Oliver

If anyone wants to try caboose lighting with metal wheelsets smaller than the Marklin ones, you might consider getting some of the Akia ZJ Japanese sets for parts.

For about $45 dollars (plus about another $30 for shipping from Japan) you get a set with one powered unit (could use for an RDC or something) and 10 unpowered cars. All trucks have metal wheels with fairly low profile flanges on them. I bought two sets and it still fit in the $30 shipping price (got them in about 3 days!).

I haven't tried the wheels in anything else yet and I can't even recall how they fit in the trucks but it might be worth a try. If I remember, I'll try to take some photos this weekend. Gotta take them after my 3 1/2 y/o son is in bed, otherwise he wants to play with them and he's not quite ready for Z yet. He's mastered G and HO and we are working on N now. Next step Z. ;-)
