In a previous post, http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=33;t=000269, I received some very helpful suggestions. Thanks to Corey Lynch who has worked with me, together we have come up with a new plan that I think will be satisfying to operate. I would like to thank Corey for putting up with all my e-mails back and forth and for all of his invaluable insight in helping develop this plan. A little background history: The Nickelcreek Southern will be a fictional line founded by Gen. Lucius Redding Nickelcreek (the general is fictional aslo) shortly after the Civil War. He also was a lawyer and later became a governor and judge. (As a side note, by naming the line the Nickelcreek Southern, I won't have to repaint and decal my current roster of NS motive power.) The NS has risen from a small line to the major play it is today. The major industries served will be based on ones in my area and they are, a paper mill, chemical plant and a cement company that supplies ready-mix and manufacturing of concrete blocks and pipe. Also, there will be an old depot/rr museum along with a steam engine to provide tourists with the feel of the steam era. The plan is N-scale, 9' x 7', open grid benchwork, Code 55 Flex track and DCC wired and is as follows: Construction will begin in a month or two and I will post photos of the progress. Again, I would like to thank Corey and as always any additional comments are welcomed. [ 25. April 2003, 16:24: Message edited by: asab501 ]
Looks Like you'll have a lot of fun with that one Corey's pretty amazing.I dont know how he finds the time, I'm sure thankful he does though Question now is this, who is going to be generating Revenue first, you or me
Hoss, You took the words right out of my mouth - "Looks like a nice, clean track plan with lots of action. I like it!! " I see lots of space for structures, a good operational potential, more of an advanced "intermediate" layout, but not overly intimidating.
This was kind of my goal here. I know operations can intimidate some people (look at the layout I operate on) so I tried to keep it simple and fun. Nice to know you accomplished what you set out to do, so thanks. The idea is to have the ability for 3 or 4 operators at a time. One on the yard, one working a local, one on a through freight, and one possibly on the excursion train. Even with one person the variation you can acheive is dramatic. The switchback in the middle presents a small and not overly complex switching puzzle, and with the siding available for passing and runarounds, the action can get very exciting at this point without discouraging a beginner or inexperienced operator. I look forward to seeing the progress on the layout.
Nice-looking track plan! Is that spur in the lower left going to be used as interchange? If not, it could be- great way to get traffic on & off the railroad.
