Hi All, I am a new member and my interest is modeling the CNE in Z scale. I have already done some research on the railroad, and I am currently researching the rolling stock for the first five years of the company, 1899-1904. Since I am looking at the turn of the century, I expect to be scratch building the power and rolling stock. Fortunately my father is a model train collector and a former Rogue Locomotive collaborator. So I will be able to get some cast detail parts, power info. and running gear. The more challenging area will be the rolling stock. Looking forward to being on this site! Scott
Hi Scott, welcome. During the era you are modeling, the CNE interchanged with the New York Central Harlem Division at Millerton, NY. It also crossed the Harlem Division at Brewster, NY and continued to New York City on what eventually became the NYC Putnam Division. Are these areas in your concept? EDIT: Forgot to mention that the CNE also bridged the Harlem Division at Towners, NY on its way to crossing the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, NY, ending up at Maybrook, NY where it interchanged with the Lehigh & New England.
Scott- Welcome to TrainBoard! Here is a page you might enjoy: http://www.train-orders.com/TOUR/C/CNE/CNE.html
I am covering just the main line, and just between New Hartford and West Winsted. I may also cover the furnace and chemical company at East Canaan as a micro layout. I have access to Mr. Nimke's three volumes plus I have Gardeners pictorial book. I love the big 0-8-0s that worked Maybrook, but that is just too much right now.
BoxcabE50 and Point353, Thank you for the links! I have been interested in going on this tour since I have been researching the CNE. Scott
