    Hi Jeff,

    Firstly, welcome aboard.

I have a Bachmann EZ-DCC unit and have no problems running locos fitted with Digitrax decoders. It is a very easy system to run but be warned this is an entry level DCC system and may not support some of the features offered on sound decoders for example.

But overall for someone with a small layout and a limited budget who just wants to run trains, perfect. You can always upgrade to a more sophisticated system at a latter date.

    Cheers, Ken

From a USAF guy to you, thanks Jeff for your service!

When I'm complaining about the cable being out in my room, you're probably ducking from shrapnel in your foxhole.

Once again, Mr. Moffat Tunnel *who could argue with a handle like that?!?*, Thanks for your service to our country!
As for entry-level DCC, the Digitrax Zephyr is a great start as well.

I to was looking at the Bachman DCC setup but then ended up purchasing a Prodigy Express DCC system from MRC. It is not much more expensive then the Bachman but gives you many many more features. Have a look at it before you decide. And by the way, as a Canadian I also would like to thank you for your service. What you are doing is helping everyone. Thanks again.

I also would like to thank you for your service.

I have a saying , buy cheap, buy twice.

Even though the Bachmann will get you into DCC at a cheap price, you will eventually want more and more features. And that means buying another system.

I would recommend spending the extra money and getting either the Digitrax Zephyr or the NCE Powercab. Both of these systems are great starter systems. with lots of features.

Both can be bought for about $150.00

    Hope this helps,
    Craig

    Soldier,
You'll hear a lot of advise about this and that here. It is as confusing as a first date. Go to Tony's train exchange online if you have not already done that, and read his comparison guide. The URL is:

    http://www.tonystrains.com/productcompare/dcccomparison.htm

Fact is prices seem rather soft on some used DCC equipment these days. Today, at the Longmont train show, a like new Lenz Set 100, was laying there, second day for $180 bucks. This is the second set I have seen used at a similar price in the last month. I bought the other one. Good bargains are out there.

Question I would ask you are you trying to get in quick and cheap or set yourself up for the long pull. It makes a difference.

And, listen to your friend Wyatt.

    HEy-
I am an OIF Vet too, and I have the Bachmann Easy DCC for the exact same reasons you are looking at it.
This is a pretty good thread on the topic,
    http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=63214
Yes you get what you pay for, easy entry into DCC.
DCC is a set of standards sort of like an SOP, all DCC units should work interconnected with each other.

The Bachman is easy, controls up to 9 DCC locos or unit sets. It is very basic, and the only real function is lights on or off. They just came out with a booster for larger layouts and/or locos that pull more amps. I am like you, on the move every 2-4 years, armchair/small layout modeler for now....
The Bachmann is an easy fit. The real reason I bought mine was to test DCC locos I was purchasing, no doubt when I finally build my permanent layout I will probably upgrade to Digitrax, and unload the B-Mann on Ebay.

Good Luck, 1st Cav or 4ID?

    Brad
