    Hello all!

I'm Bill from the western suburbs of Chicago. I retired from the Union Pacific (C&NW) after 37 years. I've worked both sides of the fence; 25 as an engineer and the last 12 on the "Dark Side" (MOP). Last layout was in Iowa. Broke my heart to tear it down. Looking forward to N scale and especially DCC!! Just had Hip replacement surgery so it's a little tough for me to get around at the present. Have plans drawn up for a 3'X6' layout. I've been buying stuff here and there (Peco c55, tortoise, KATO, etc. As soon as I can walk well enough construction will start!
Very much looking forward to picking up some good tips regarding DCC and wiring.

    Very nice to be here!

    Bill W.

Wlecome Bill! I have a feeling that your experience will provide some great input to the set up of your next layout, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

    Bill-

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

It's always great to have a professional come aboard. Especially one who is also another N scaler. :) Do you have a proposed layout plan? Will it be C&NW oriented?

I do have a plan and sorry to say it will not be C&NW oriented. It will be from the '50's to '70's era so I can incorporate my favorite locomotive-SD40-2, double track with 2 hidden storage tracks (one for a passenger train which will run once per day and then go away). Another will be a dead freight train to alternate deliveries to a working yard. Some industries will be in there somewhere and a diesel facility (no where near the capacity of Proviso). Anyway, that's it. I don't think I'll know any more til the board is cut and track starts to go down......

Does this mean you don't like passenger trains? Welcome to the board Bill.

Hi Bill, Welcome to the train Board, happy to have you on board. Looking forward to seeing your layout as it evolves. I've always admired layouts built by front-end crews. Their cab-view perspective on scenery and track work creates totally different layouts than those built by us foamers and wannabes. <grin>

Bill, welcome aboard from the old steam curmudgeon in residence. Good to have another engineer on board (oh, I am not, but there are others here). Look forward to your progress.
