Hi friends After a long wait the Orange Belt Lines is finally getting one of the new Key Imports GS-4 Daylights. The photo below is not very good and is not the locomotive I'm getting (I'm getting #4444 with solid black wheels) but it still shows the level of detail Key put into these. Can't wait
In the back of my mind, I seem to recall an appropriate phrase. There was a commercial or ad. I do not recall the product. But it said something like "you've come a long way, baby!" And the truth is that N scale sure has! Can you tell me, an SP illiterate, about the GS4 paint schemes? I believe I have seen a photo showing an all black version? Were they all, or just some, painted in "Daylight" colors at various times? Boxcab E50
The GS-3, 4 & 5's all came to SP in Daylight paint. During WW2 some of these (not all) were repainted black but after the war got their Daylight paint back again. Starting in the early 50's these locomotives were once again painted black and lost their side skirtings, some Daylight stayed in Daylight paint longer than others but by 56 most if not all were painted black. The GS-6 is the only "GS" class locomotive delivered in black paint and was never painted "Daylight" GS-4 #4449 & GS-6 #4460 are the only two left.
Bob, Fantastic looking engine. A little too far from my home road for me to use, but certainly a work of art.
