How did you do it, Mitch? I see a Kato -9 shell, an Atlas-8 cab/pilot/nose/battery boxes I think, and GMM details...
hemi it is a dash nine frame and shell from the rear of the cab back the sill was chopped at the steps on both side and the sill from an atlas dash 8 chopped same was installed in it's place. then chop body at cab and mount the new cab from the dash 8. some minor additions were done to the handrails. and yes several gmm parts and jnj parts were added. i have another one to do for ed so i will really break the work don into a photo essay and post. it is actually pretty simple to do.
mitch, sorry to be so late responding...BUSY time of the year, and I changed jobs to boot (i drive every other week to the Quad cities for a 7on-7off hospital job) Still pushing pills at Walgreens also. Damn that c40-9 tophat looks NICE!! excellent work dude. Now before rest of the NS'ers line up to have you build these, remember that I had to sacrifice TWO undec b40-8's from atlas (since the undec bodies are unavailable!!) In addition, I lucked into the correct high number boards, narrow handrail, 5 step ( i think) undec shells at BLW. They are HARD to find!! and this has been a LOT of work for mitch to place the headlight in the proper place and the grafting of the cab looks like it was more work than we originally thought. So hats off to Mitch!! p.s. he works outdoors during the summer but seems to fill his winters with custom stuff. charges reasonable prices (IMHO) and usually only asks for a beer or two at an N-trak show! I believe the locomotive count is now 1 down, 12 to go!!! Don't be in a hurry, he does his best work when not rushed!!! [ 12. December 2003, 17:02: Message edited by: ednsfan ]
