Thanks for having this site. This is NYCHUDSONDIVISION, located in Roanoke, VA since mid 2007. Currently working on my "last layout", since it is likely my next home will be a condo or something. My section of the Hudson division runs in our basement, and because it is an older house (pre WW II), the configuration lends itself to a dog bone which is 35 feet long, in HO scale. The main line is a straight shot of four tracks, just like the real thing, and I can run traffic up and down the river. I model post WWII era, but mostly steam. My equipment is a mix of Broadway Limited and MTH. My rolling stock is a mixture of freight kits (airbrushed and decaled by yours truly) and some Walthers and MTH passenger stuff (Empire State Express and 1940 20th Century Limited). I am in the last stages of customizing another 1940 20th Century, and am looking for HO Scale 20th Century lettering sets with aluminum lettering and numbers. Need enough to do an RPO and a dining car. If anyone has any old Champ stuff laying around, I would be grateful for the chance to purchase what you have. I also have some Stewart (not Bowser) FT's, in both NYC and NYO&W livery. As background, I have family ties to both the NYC and the O&W. This is my 4th iteration of NYC (O&W); one in Colorado, one in Montana, the third in Texas, and the last here in Roanoke. My worst nightmare is having to shut down and trying to sell everything (except a couple of my favorite things, you know). Not for a while yet. I will try to take a couple of photos and upload them in the future. Love to hear from other NYC modellers (and anyone else, of course.) Bruce Travis Roanoke, VA nychudsondivision@gmail.com
Hi Bruce, Welcome to the TrainBoard, glad to have you on board. I envy your ability and room to model The Central. I'm not a Central modeler, even growing up in Bedford Hills, NY on the Harlem Division and riding into The City for over 10 years. Once or twice a year, Mother and I would drive over to Harmon and park on the bluff just north of the Croton-Harmon station, directly opposite the Engine Terminal, where we would spend 4-6 hours just watching P-Motors and T-Motors exchange with Niagaras and Hudsons. How Sweet Was The Great Steel Fleet.... :goggles:
Welcome to TrainBoard! Photos would be very interesting to view. We don't seem to see many views of O&W models.
Thanks for all the kind welcoming thoughts. I have a quick question. Are there sub-groups in the organization, ie NYC modellers, BNSF modellers, UP modellers, etc? Regards Bruce Travis
Look in our TrainBoard Groups area. If none, you are welcome to start such a Group. We just ask to not duplicate one of our existing TB Forum areas.
There are also scale-specific forums, as well as the Fallen Flags forum for discussion threads related to specific roads.
Welcome to Trainboard, Bruce. I do not model the Central (actually don't model at all), but grew up alongside the four track mainline in the Mohawk Valley. Hank and I would both enjoy seeing photos of your HO reminder of what it once was, back then.
