Hey everyone! New member from Ontario, Canada, just getting into model railroading and it sure is addictive! Just thought I'd say hi since I'll be lurking the forums and probably asking some questions. Already found some good advice from past threads. I've built a 5x8 table in my basement, which I'll add on to as the layout expands. So far I've just been having fun using AnyRail to design a potential layout and I'm pretty happy with this so far, I think the double loop and figure 8 will provide lots of enjoyment! I'm still debating on an industrial or mountain/river scene.
@rye Moose bids you hearty welcome to the forum! Plenty of knowledgeable and very helpful folk here, so feel free to ask any and all questions that come to mind! If Moose may, Moose would like to suggest to you purchasing a copy of John Armstrong's "Track Planning for Realistic Operations". It offers a ton of useful information about designing a layout that just might make yours much more enjoyable over the long run. https://www.alibris.com/Track-Planning-for-Realistic-Operation-John-Armstrong/book/9048050
Welcome to Trainboard, rye! Lots of helpful folks here for sure - ask away and I'm sure someone will have some helpful input for ya Glad to have you onboard.
Welcome to Trainboard from down south of you! Might I recommend a longer tail track on the switchyard to the left, so you can have better switching for longer trains. Other than that, this will be a great layout with lots of operating for you!
