Hi everyone! I'm coming back to model railroading after a 40+ year break. I had an HO setup as a kid. I'm now starting a small N scale layout and I hope to get the grand kids involved. There have been a lot of changes over the years but I think I'll mange with time. Hardest thing is there isn't any model railroading down here to speak of so, no running to the hobby shop if I need something.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Great to know the youngsters are involved. Hope you will all have some good fun together.
Hi, Welcome to the Train Board, glad to have you on board. I agree, N-Scale definitely has come long way in 40 years, as has model railroading in general. I hope your grand kids find it exciting sharing the hobby.
I think you've got one of the "furthest from the beaten path" homes of late. For availability of supplies, I would suggest browsing through the websites of some of our advertisers. It would be interesting to get a feel for what kind (if any) of railroading you have down there. Welcome aboard, and hope you and yours have a great time!
Welcome aboard, Bmai76. It sounds as though you have a real challenge there in Bogota. Please keep us informed of your progress.
Hola from Sarasota, Florida... A few weeks ago I was taking phone videos of the Bogota Tourist Train around the Usaquin Station. My girlfriend has family there and we stayed at Charlies Place, about 100 feet from the tracks. Seeing and hearing the 1947 Baldwin slip her drivers starting a 14 car train with 600 passengers aboard can stir the soul. If you like, stay in touch and perhaps we can get together on my next trip. Sid
Hi bmai76, Welcome and welcome back! I just started back in the hobby as well. I have a couple of suggestions for scenery and buildings since thing are hard to come by down there. You can download paper buildings and put them together, you can also find all sorts of things to use to help you build industrial structures. I used to use the paper tubes from plastic shrink wrap to make large oil tanks, you could also use them to make grain silos. Just cut some heavy card stock and make the top. I made about 10 or so one time to simulate a petroleum tank farm. Just some ideas for you. Enjoy your new "re-found" hobby! Dale Baker
