New flared SD70Ms coming to NS territory- keep an eye out for these! From the TRAINS Newswire: New Norfolk Southern SD70M’s on the property MELVINDALE, Mich. – Two of Norfolk Southern’s order for 33 new SD70Ms arrived Saturday from Electro-Motive Division’s plant in London, Ontario, via interchange from Canadian Pacific at Oakwood Yard in suburban Detroit. The locomotives are numbered NS 2596 and 2597; both arrived in primer paint, and feature the flared (larger) radiators as found on recent Union Pacific SD70Ms. The units were bound for Bellevue, Ohio, to be placed in service and then were to work east to the Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, Pa., for painting. – Kenneth Borg
A buddy of mine in Chattanooga TN saw the 2596 there yesterday afternoon. Still in primer. Bet those units will look nice in the new NS scheme.
Seen 2598 in Ronoake, brand new tan primer, it was in the shops so maybe she is gonna get some paint. Up close its really a sweet looking unit.
Here's a pic of the new paint scheme. This pic was emailed to me by a co-worker. Credit should be attributed to Lee J. King. Okay...that didn't work. Lemme try something else. [ 12. June 2003, 15:05: Message edited by: Jerry Marx ]
I see the new horse head on the side, but I thought they were going to eliminate the full horse from the front and replace it with the horse head too. Wasn't their biggest gripe was that anatomically correct male horses were showing up on the nose? As for the white face, I guess it gives more visibility.
Ahhh yes,I am finally seeing some of the new sd70m's come in the yards.9607 is the highest number so far and it was in full primer grey.Lots of primer grey dash 9's also.
