Been working on this for about a week. Should have it pretty well wrapped up by the end of this one. On the left is the Heritage unit and 2 Dash9's on the right. You can see where the Sears Tower is going to be in the background as well. I think this is going to be a really good one. Made some more headway on it: As of now: Finished it:
Lance, do you photograph some of the locations and units, or just start from scratch? I really enjoy your work. :tb-biggrin:
Thank you, I am glad you like it! I work off photos that I have. I have a collection of several thousand that I have either taken myself or gotten from family and friends. When I decide on a project I pour through the photos looking for the shots I need and then start to lay it all out. Once the basic sketch is done I am then done working off the photos. I have done enough drawings that I don't need anything for reference after that. I just decide on my light source, angle of the sun, and put in the colors, shades and reflections. It looks like I am getting a sizeable commission order this week. So, I probably wont be posting much after this as the next 6-8 months will be dedicated to doing the drawings for them. I do plan on squeezing in the drawing I have in the idea stage right now of the D&RGW Heritage unit up at Moffat Tunnel, winter scene, with a stopped train it is passing that has the last SD40T-2 of the D&RGW on the head.
do you have the cotton belt SD45T-2 bicentenial unit as a drawing or a ES40DC i would like to see how they look as a drawing Nice picture!!!
Thank you! As of right now the only thing I have done along those lines is the Freedom Train 4-8-4. That is not to say some of the others might not be done but they are probably a ways off.
Just added the second shot top the OP. Forgot to blow the eraser shavings off before I took the pic. So, sorry about the white specs up in the blue you might be able to see.
Just posted the 3rd pic to the OP. This afternoon I will get the buildings done in the background and then on to the lower half of the Dash9's this weekend. I will hopefully have this done by Tuesday at the latest.
Charlie....Thank you! Each time I get a little more done on it the happier I am with it. I had to slow up a bit and get some research done for the lower areas for color. Plus, I got to futzing with the Sears Tower until I got it to the effect I wanted. So, hopefully later today I will have all the front of the lead Dash9 done and tomorrow I will get the trucks and tanks finished for both with rail and road bed on Tuesday. 4th pic posted to OP.
Just finished it. Sorry about the picture quality for the last image. I lost some of the color saturation when it got converted to a .jpg for this thread. The prints, however, are beautiful as is the original.
Excellent work!! I've always liked your work. How's about some more modern GN, like the SDP-45's on the "Builder"? Or, some NP "North Coast Limited", and theyr'e SD-45's too? Keep up the great work!!
Thank you! Yes, I do plan on doing some more GN pieces. I will be traveling to some train shows in Wisconsin and Minnesota later in the year and thought I would have some ready to go for those shows as I do sell/ship an number of my other GN ones up to those states.
