The new Atlas USRA Single Sheathed boxcars are spectacular!!! They snuggle down prototypically on their new Andrews trucks, the doors are operable and tight fitting (no light gaps), there is a full separate underframe...... Car siding has wood grain, lettering is scale, sharp, prototypical, and complete..... all details are very sharply molded. There are only two minor compromises I can see, the first necessary and the second understandable: the floor is recessed into the carbody to allow the wheels and talgo coupler to have clearance yet achieve the correct relationship of the truck sideframes to the body sill and the car end is notched out a little to clear the coupler swing..... and the brake wheel staff is a little short..if it were full length many would be broken in the box or by normal handling. The Accumate coupler sticks out from the car end too long but then that is a common problem. These are really nice cars!!!! Charlie Vlk
Today I received 3 of them from my German dealer. They are truly spectactular. I hope to get more from Wig-Wag in the future. And I am looking forward to further runs of these models. Can't have too many of them... Best regards, Christoph
Verrry nice! Can't wait to see mine. Charlie, your written description caught my interest, a good review to set expectations. The photos look outstanding, thanks George. I understand these were retired shortly after WWII ended, but some survived through the 1950s. They will be fun to weather!
Just received mine yesterday and they are nice. Very hefty so they should track well. The details are awesome. The grab irons even though they are molded are the best I have seen yet. I hope the sliding door is a sign of things to come from Atlas with all new box car designs in the future. Move over Microtrains theirs a new playa in town.
