Yeah Hank. When I was younger, I remember the old 0-4-0 camelback working hard. Now she rests near the turntable at the museum across the street. Strasburg has changed and all for the better!
Here is another shot, this one taken by my wife while we waited at a grade crossing. I was busy manning my 35mm. This was taken with my digital.:

Fitz, yours and Martin's photographs are beautiful! What a wonderful timeless appeal those old steam locomotives and rolling stock exude [IMG]

You are so lucky to be able to see those sights!

Thanks Alan. That trip was by far the best I have ever been on regarding photo opportunities, courtesy, etc. :D
Russ, I will contribute to your campaign to get Hank (and JOHN) to Strasburg. Here's the Strasburg 2-10-0 No. 90 which was running in 1995. We may as well make this a steam marathon. [IMG]
Bill, that's a classic shot of 18 and 19 together. A handsome pair.

Cool shot Jim! #90 is my all time favorite. Well, let's keep things steaming ahead. Here is a pic of SRR's #4 camelback back when it was still in operation. I took this when I was about 11/12 with one of them old box type cameras:

God I have to get my wheels up and running to make a trip across state! HA! Strasburg, and steamtown are east of me. So. About 300 mile give or take a few. But this all is about enough to make me walk that distance! HA! :D

Russ, nice little 0-4-0 "Goat" Camelback! I have the Mantua signature loco of that very locomotive! And for its size, don't let it surprise ya! I've hauled 60 cars with it ALONE! So... Very surprising its got that kinda power but still! I was impressed!

phewwwwww I gots to get me behind to Strasburg, and steamtown! :D

John, I believe you! When this locomotive was running at Strasburg, it hauled the same amount of cars as the bigger locomotives do today. It was actually kind of funny to see this little loco pull those long passenger cars but, it did it. I guess that you could say that this is the little engine that could!

    Happy Railroading!

Russ, your wife's photo of the train through the cornfield is a Work of Art!!! We Foamers concentrate on trying to show every nut, bolt, and rod without considering the artistry of the subject ... her shot is BEAUTIFUL!!! [IMG]

    Russ,
In HO scale my little Mantua 0-4-0 "Goat" is the little engine that could and did! HA! It was one of my favorites and still is! But I have a bunch of 0-4-0's that won't dare pull what it does without hesitation! It runs with the big dogs out on my mainline! And does a fiune job of doing so. I mean my loco's at the holiday shows really get miles put on them. run 7 to 9 hours a day for 4 days.. an hour break (lunch time for us modelers) so.... And hes never once gave me a problem! This Mantua 0-4-0 was named "Mantua's Signature locomotive" and I got it waaaaaay before I knew that. I doubt if any more will be made. Depending on Model Power being they bought all the Mantua line and designs so... I'd like to get a few more of him.. Maybe its big brother, the Mantua 0-6-0 B7a Camelback. But, but but the 0-4-0 Goat is ok for another too! :D I like that little girl. runs like a million and trouble free! Not to mention powerfull in HO scale. like its prototype!

First, another "Out of the Cornfield" pic by myself.....

Same grad crossing, different view. This shot looks toward Strasburg station. Notice the water tower in the background....

Yeah John, you got to get east to Strasburg! You'll love it. Right on the edge of that cornfield in Russ (and Mrs. Russ)'s great pictures, by the grade crossing, is the Caboose Motel. You can stay in a caboose, eat in the dining car, and watch the trains go by. Great place. Two very nice model RR attractions right there, too. One near the motel and the other in town. Then right across the street from the Strasburg depot is the museum in honor of that other railroad that I can't bear to speak of. They have a whole lotta engines on display including a K-4s and a NKP berk. Getting interested?

If I remember correctly, I believe I was told that the Strasburg is the oldest continuously operating shortline railroad in the US. I think it was chartered around 1838, and began operations shortly after. [IMG]

Interested ??? How'z about DROOLING! :D I want to go. I just have to get time, and alittle in pocket funding! I sure will be going! :D I've had the interest, just not the time nor funding to go.. BUT I will one day! I'm going to plan a week of it being Baltimore and Strasburg being I want to go to Mt. Clare Balto, and then go to Strasburg being both are east and not to far apart! :D

Something isn't it?? I wear the B&O Capitol Dome on my sleave, and never been to Mt. Clare once! I have to make that trip... When time and funds permit! If the sun still shines, and the creeks and rivers don't rise and God's still willing. I'll get their! :D
