I start a new thread about my "Needle Eye" Steam locomotive project. It is suppose to be a version off an old Baldwin Locomotive Works from about 1890-1900. Here is my first test from winter off 2004. Here is the a later upgrade in 2005 And yet another small upgrade from 2005
From the first sight........ From the first sight of the Neddle Eye I fell in love with the old timey look. Simply Outstanding Torsja, Outstanding! :lightning: Hobo Tim
"Needle Eye" Upgrade Here I have on my drawing board a new cab for the locomotive. Its gone be made in plastic with the help off laser cutting. And here is the first result.
"Needle Eye" Update Some more parts for the "Needle Eye" Steam Locomotive are on my workbench these days. This is tonight's work. A couple off new diamond shaped smoke stacks made in the milling machine. And some other parts have been made today.
Great stuff! I like the fact that you put it all together in one thread like this. Very inspiring work.
It really is a nice project, and every upgrade looks much better than the previous one. I have to get me one of those small lathes and mills so I can make parts too!
Yes lots of round parts on a steam locomotive. A lathe would be at the top of my wish list, came close to buying one a few times. Steam rules!
Update Just a small update. I have begun to adapt the new parts on the Marklin frame. Lots off work still, but it's coming along ever so slowly.
WOW! It already looks beautiful! :yes9rq:  Keep those pictures coming! This is an awesome project, Torsja. :cool6xb:
Drawing I'm working off a drawing in one off the "The Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette" Magazine. The drawing is off a "Baldwin Locomotive Works 1891" from year 1906. I scanned it in to the computer and scaled it down from H0 gauge to Z-Scale. So it should be farley accurate with some small modifications and compromises off course.
Now that is pretty cool! The other thing is I'll bet this one pulls very well with that extra weight.
Good point JoeS, all that solid brass must give it tremendous weight! When I see those pictures I start dreaming about scratchbuilding a Big Boy like Yuji Kuwabara... To bad I don't have that kind of machinery or skill to do something like that. Excellent work Torsja! ps. Is the rumour still alive about the Big Boy being produced in Z by Marklin? Did anyone recieve some new info?
Update I'm not quite where Yuji Kuwabara is yet That will take a few years more I would think. Today's update consists off a bell, Air pump, hand railings and a bracket for the head lamp.
