I install new ends on 6-wire phone cord used in expanding the layout. Every now and then when new ends are added I lose the connection to the loconet. :angry:Is there a way to check the connection with a meter or can I build somthing home made? Waiting for advice.:embarassed:

It seems to me that you should be able to check the 6 wire telephone cord by measuring resistance in the individual wires.

If you mean that a valid 6 wire telephone cord is not properly sending signals to Loconet, then I do not know enough to help you. I'm sure others will post soon.

Digitrax includes a decoder tester/LocoNet cable tester in with their starter sets. I believe it is also available separately. All you have to do to use it is plug the new cable into a UP5 or the command station and then plug the other end of the cable into the tester. If all 6 LEDs illuminate then the cable is good.

    Thanks for the help but

    David,
Sorry after I posted I thought now I didn't tell everyone I had one of those LED testers. :embarassed: Of corse I had one till it started playing hide and go seek with me. Just short of buying another one I am lost with out it. FYI it did work well.

If you are talking about the RJ12 jacks, I would take the crimper and repeat the crimp to make sure all the connections are secure. If that still doesn't work, I would cut the end off and crimp on another connector. Once you get a faulty one, it's hard to correct, unlike a soldered connection.

The mail was good to me today. Maybe if you downstairs guys are nice, I'll let you borrow my new LT1 <g>

I'll bring it with me this weekend. Hopefully we can get the HO layout ends sorted out.

Keep a leash on your LT1

    Welcome to train board "T"
I was down stairs Sat. (J.D. worked on the ends Friday night)and it was working again. I checked all the ends white is now on the right all over. How ever doing some research I did uncover more info on stuff I didn't know. This site has a lot more then I can remember I copied over some and will post down stairs:shade: in the control room. http://www.digitrax.com/kb/
And thanks to the other help from above.
Below is just a small part of what I found.
    LocoNet wires:

    1. White 5 – 7 VDC

    2. Black Ground All voltages DC.

    3. Red 10 – 15 VDC Measure between the pin or wire and

    4. Green 10 – 15 VDC case ground.

    5. Yellow Ground Wires 3. and 4. (RED and Green) are

    6. Blue 5 – 7 VDC. connected in each throttle.

The LocoNet ports on the front are intended for throttles while the ports on the back are for linking LocoNet to other devices and are DIFFERENT from the front ports! So use the front ports for throttles only.
