Hey guys, I've got a question that I really need some advice on, I am trying to setup ditch lights with a Digitrax DH163 decoder but I can't get the decoder to flash them properly, it understands that they are ditch lights and flashes them, but it doesn't flash properly. Instead of the steady alternating pattern, they just flash randomly (not back and forth) every time. It seems that the first time you push the function button to make them flash, they do it right, but after that, they just do whatever they feel like. This is absolutely driving me crazy as I am a lighting purist and want them to look right as a lot of modelers do and should. Please, if any of y'all know something to help fix this problem, I would be so very greatful. Even if you could maybe recommend a different decoder that properly does ditch lights every time, please any help would be wonderful, thanks so much. By the way, the model I need to put it in needs to have 6 function outputs for lights, so keep that in mind if you are recommending a different decoder, thanks.

Perhaps there is a program that sets up a signal for an alternate contact for a left light, then right light, "that makes" them flash?

Maybe it would work like a slow oscillator turns on a steady current, then switches it rhythmically to connect to the left light, then to the right. That would make both flash, but guarantee an "either or" flow of current to each light separately, so one would be "on" but the other would have to be "off".

We can do it in hydraulics with an oscillating valve, but I am guessing on electronics. Maybe it will give you something to think on.
