Hey Bill, Quit teasing and give us a full tour of the Simpson Timber layout. The few photos I've seen really intrigue me. I'd like to see more of it. Including a overhead shot showing the track plan. Any chance you can accommodate? Thanks in advance, Mike
Hi Mike I'll have to get some pics of it. I still need to lay the track in the dry sort yard and reload. The half of it shown in the picture above is almost all sceniced. I've got to finish the round house and turntable on the new section. about 1/3 of section two will be Oakland bay. I'm going to put a couple of barges and maybe scratchbuild a small tug to go out there. I also need to scratchbuild th huge log unloader there. It picks up the entire load of one car and dumps it into the bay. I'll see if I can get the camera from work here and get a few pics tonight.
Just saw this topic and its excellent as somebody else stated modelling is in great hands with the standard being set here. Keep the pics going it's great to see such diverse modelling at such a high standard
Great topic! You older folks are more than welcome to post--I should have noted that anyone from 5-105 can post in this one! What a show, great modelling, folks!
im glad im not the only younger modeler out there.... based on my club i figured i was about the only one! great work guys, tomorrow night i'll post some more current pictures of my project(s). and sunday night, expect a whole bunch of pictures in my railimages album from the N-TraK east convention.
Dusty here, 24...happily married with two kids, 3.5 yr old boy train freak, and a 1.5 year old beautiful girl! Live in sw florida, not any trains for hundreds of miles. Don't have any pics now, gotta set up a rail images account, just haven't got around to it!
IIRC, your layout was featured by Kalmbach a few years ago- nice work! For a short while, I felt I was back in Des Moines, IA, watching those long CGW freights crawl thru our neighborhood.
I was kinda waiting till some one stepped up to the plate, but a few asked, and hey, why not! You still can, if you'd like. There are a bunch of senior modellers that can hang with the likes of Skibbe, Craig Martyn, et al.
Some of us still need some practice. I put the decals on, and then sprayed the final clear coat. Then I had to go put my thumb print on the top of the cab…….Time to get out the sand paper.
Hey Jeremiah: The GN rotary started out as the Dimi Trains plow, but I scratchbuilt a new super structure to match a GN plow in one of my books. The markings are a combination of units I have pictures of. The F3B is an old Rapido dummy that I painted to match the plow. I doubt they ever painted them this way, but it looks nice
I certainly am glad to read this! At least I know that I'm not alone in such an inattentive moment! It's been a long time since I last glued my fingers together. Maybe that's some progress on my part? Boxcab E50 50+ year old model railroader.......
Thats good, I was going to do a Seinor modelers thread. Now I don't have too. </font>[/QUOTE]Geez, now I know why us 40-somethings have mid-life crises - we're neither young nor old!! I think I better buy a SD9043 Convertible....
I can safely say that I am past the mid-life crisis, Gary! Good to see such examples of superb modeling skills, the hobby is in safe hands for the foreseeable future
Amen. Just turned 40 and thinking about how I want to start my mid-life crisis... They make those?? Maybe a new topic needs to be started: Mid-life Crisis Layouts. I could use some ideas...
