Hi all. I was poking around at MRC's website when I came across these.

They look like they will be awesome. So, has anybody seen them in person? I know they are not released yet, but maybe some of you have seen demos. What do they sound like? Does anybody know when tehy are coming out?

One more thing, are you able to customize the sounds on MRC decoders with locomotive specific type sounds? I want the sounds to be the right ones for the locomotive, as a AC4400 sounds a lot different from an SD70M.

    Thanks, Josh

Those are very promising if they get to the market! MSRP is only $85 so after typical retail discounting they are affordable.

I knew it was only a matter of time. We are going to see alot more sound decoders for N scale now and I am sure that more factory installed sound is just around the corner. I never thought that sound would make that much of a difference but it really does when you can blow the horn ring the bell and hear the chuffs on a steam locomotive.

Word is that the sound is "generic" diesel.

I don't know about these loco specific decoders, but the hardwire ones are generic sounds. But its a start. If you want more specific sounds you could go with a Lok Sound micro. However they are more expensive and there aren't any drop ins available for n scale.
