My new attempt at a layout, with more switching and less size.

Me too. I'll try putting one of my old Bachmann locos under my pillow tonight and see if I find money under there in the morning. :tb-tongue:

The funny thing is that I was just thinking of that when I logged back in, then I saw your post. So, with that said:

I might just have to build this one in N-scale for myself! :tb-biggrin:

And that lead off the lower right begs for a removable staging cassette with a couple tracks on it for the inbound and outbound switch jobs.

Definitely. And to make this more interesting, apparently a German company already made (though they say they're sold out of it) z-scale box cab locomotives. And it looks as though they'd handle a much tighter radius of track, too. Anyway, just in case you were interested.

    Enjoy!

Hmmm, an old Bachman loco under my pillow. Worth a shot. :)

They look great, plus they have Erie, Lackawanna, CRNJ. But I'm planning to use good ol' GP7s and 9s. MTL and AZL make good ones. I'm not sure about the SD70s though, I think they need at least 7.5" radii turns.

I was going to ask what you were planning to use. The geeps will do nicely. What era are you thinking of modeling? If more modern, you could always have the SD70 dropping off/picking up cars from the interchange. Then that would give you an excuse to make a detachable extension... :tb-wink:

Well, I think this is something I can trace on to my layout. I replaced the Marklin switches with MTL ones because I'm using the similar looking Rokuhan ones.

As for the dock, the board I'm using is 14.5" so I figured it would be easier to just leave it on rather than try to cut just a little off and make a 0.5" cutaway dock.

    I
just purchased a dozen undertrack magnets for uncoupling. Now I have to figure out where to put them.

Lookin' great! And I dig those Rokuhan switches. Nice little package they have there. What do you think of them, operationally speaking?

As for the magnets, hopefully someone else will offer some suggestions, but initially I think at the entrance of each siding would make sense, as well in the throat of the car ferry switches, and maybe one on each side of the main line at the passing section.

My son was running this layout today and started adding city buildings (bakery, factory, frozen food distributer, etc.) and running trains. So far it's got a thumbs-up rating.

I really like the ideas that you've adopted from PW&NJ. I think you will be MUCH more satisfied with how it is going to operate. I like like the car-float idea too. Smooth rails!
