yea this is my first attempt.. I really want to dismantle it and start over.. Just because I now realize that I want more switching and industrial sidings. I think I want an L shaped loop, as well as a decent sized yard [IMG] of course ya want in one hand and..... in the other.. hehe

well here is a decent sized update on my progress..

I re worked some roads and parking lots and stripped them...

I added this to the back side of the mountain as the front side already has a similar scene I decided to change the typre of retaining wall for variety [IMG]

My plan is to transition from the 3-d of the layout to the flattened 3-d mountan profile .... to a painted background on the wall with mountains and a sky.... I am hoping it adds a little depth

There are so many beautifullly detailed scenes on the layout, if you do start over on a new one, I hope you can save and incorporate many of them.

Very fine detail work. For a first layout it is stunning [IMG]

It would be a shame to see all your hard work dismantled but I can understand. There are limits to what can be done with a circle of track. Instead of starting over, maybe start a second [IMG]
My own shelf layout has been a slow process. I'm beeing overly careful so I don't have to come back and redo anything until I want to. In the mean time I have my "race track" to run trains around. It has no switches so it REALLY gets boring fast :( [IMG] but at least I can run trains and break in engines and practice different scenery techniques ect...

I just realized after the fact that I DO enjoy running circles a little, but I would much rather switch out loads and transport things back and forth... I also like the idea of a layout split with a background in the middle to create 2 sides from a single loop... kinda like 2 cities so you get the point to point feeling from a loop.. I am fighting this bug until I get a house with a basement... or else my wife will be extremely mad with trains running all over the whole house :D :D

    strthoky,
I really like the work that you have done on your layout. Like someone else said, "I wish my layout could've turned out like that." You do some great detailing. I think that may be my "little talent" on the next layout ;) . Keep up the good work

The pictures are on Railimages, which is down, so they will not show unfortunately. When the new site is ready, they could be put on there and the url edited to get the pics to show again.
