I was fortunate enough to come across an Atlas C30-7 in Kodachrome scheme this past week for a very good price. Since I haven't owned an Atlas before I didn't know what to expect. All I can say is WOW! Man that thing is heavy---almost as much as my P2K SD60! It has great power and a really good speed range! It was smooth and quiet. I had previously thought that the Athearn Genesis was the best with my Kato C44s a relatively close second, but this Atlas is better by far and it isn't even the latest offering. Now if they can get some more new stuff out they will have a repeat customer!!! How about an AC6000CW!!!! I now have a B40-8W on order to go with my other fine engines---can't wait to try out this latest offering from Atlas---too bad it is delayed.
Well i have an atlas U33C and a GP38, the detail and running is much better on the last Atlas offerings, so i think you will be pleasently supprised when you get your -8's
Seconded! I've got 2x GP40's, 1xGP38, 1x B40-8 and a C30-7 in my current fleet, with a pair of B40-8W's on order, and they are great. Excellent looking paint jobs (there's a few mistakes out there, but not that many) very good running & more separate detail bits than you can shake a stick at! Mine only needed some road-specific detailing work & a little weathering & there you go. My one dissapointment was when I compared the Santa Fe GP38 with a prototype pic.....and found the step area's were seriously different on that one but I think I'll end up living with it!
My Atlas GP38-2 is the smoothest running loco I have (I run DCC). Doesn't pull as many cars as the Intermountain Regal Line F-7s, but runs a bit smoother at slow speeds, and just seems to glide around the layout. Pete
seems like within the past months everyone has been geting there first Atlas. I picked up a Atlas U33C at a train show for $35 and love the thing.
