    I know MTL flex is code 55 and micro engineering rail I got from fast tracks is code 55 but when I join them the rail heights appear to be different. Am I missing something? Are others noticing this? Should I just file the rail till it's even?

    Thanks

    The MTL flex track is actually code 59. I have no idea where the code 55 number comes from, but it's obvious, you need to file down the difference.

    I didn't measure either of them, but just joined ME C55 and MT Z flex together. The difference is very slight and a few swipes with a mill file at the joint should fix it. Go back with some 800 or finer sandpaper when your done with the file.

    Yoshi;

    Yep there is a small differance in size between the two different rails. I have had to slightly open up each rail joiner to get them to slide on to the Micro-Enginering rail. To be sure I have a good electrical connection, I like to heat and solder a little bit around each rail joiner connection. An added bonus to this technique is that I can add a set of feeder wires while soldering. I figure..."why not?"... you can never have enough feeder wires, and the more the better with weathered track and DCC. After soldering I use a fine file to level out the dis-similarity in the two rails as well as clean up my solder joint. I finish up with both 200 and 400 grit fine Scotch-Brite sanding pads to remove any scratchs from the file.

    PS: I added three fast tracks turnouts to my Echo yard module this past weekend, and the loop-passing track on the west end.
