Anyone else notice how screwed up the paper insert for the 03200400 B&O box car issued in Aug. is? The "Prototype Data" square has the data for the 09400240 fiberglass covered hopper released in Sept. (how did they do that when it was not issued until a month later? with a time machine?) instead of the data for the B&O 50' box car. Also the description of the car on the MTL web site, in the MTL newsletter and on the paper insert states that "...the car is stenciled "NEW 1-64"", however the model is clearly stenciled "NEW 4-64". Hopefully only the paper insert is in error.
I didn't notice this until you pointed it out. But now I've opened the jewel box and taken the car out, so its collector value just went south. Thanks a lot! (Just kidding, of course!)
Is this just on a few cars? Most? All? Will collectors stampede the shops looking for this issue? Boxcab E50
Collectors haven't gotten excited about a misprint since the CN(?) "Share" misprint. That one was on only a few. The last couple (and it seems to happen about once a year) have been at or close to the entire run. It's the rariety of the item that makes it collectible as opposed to the error. Cans of factory air are available to re-energize your car.
George, I think you mean the NP (Northern Pacific) "Share in Freedom" boxcar that was printed with several different inserts. It's my understanding that all inserts are now printed the same way and NOT corrected mid-run even if an error is discovered. So there would be no collectibility of the cars with the wrong inserts, since they would all be wrong.
