I will be reporting in the forthcoming August UMTRR (still being written) that there are no definite decisions at this time on the design of the SW1500. This is directly from MTL. Will the amount of information available change over time? Sure. I expect this post to become obsolete within a few weeks as more is released from MTL-- but it's what I have now. I would put in a shameless plug, "subscribe to the UMTRR for more information," except that as I write this, there is no more information.
This is great news,, no more wondering!! Hmm,, I could use a BN unit or 2,hmmm. I need to see what kind of trucks are on the units that the SOO had, Adios, Wyatt
No Undecs???? Damn!t. That means I will have to strip a couple of these to make some Weyco Longview units. Of course the train wouldn't be complete without the "ugly duckling" sandwiched between the SWs. Ryan
Not really fair to quote a 5 month old post. When the SW1500 was first let out of the bag, it was not said to DCC ready. At best they were still looking into it. Jason
In addition to the trucks, a SOO/MN&S unit (and other road names) needs a new shell with hood mounted handrails, which I believe they said they will do. Jason
I'm just looking forward to seeing the first run in person. Then I can weigh it out and decide if it is a good platform to build the units I want (Ex-UP leasers and Progressive Rail).
Tell him that MTL will make a mint if the Flexicoil truck side frames are offered for sale separately.
