I replaced the curcuit board with a Digitracs decoder. I have not run it with the DCC address. I have just a DC track to test it on. The engine surges at slow speed and the lights do not come on. The question is: Is it because I am test running the engine on a DC track and not using DCC mode? I have an another Atlas engine with decoder and it will not run at all on DC but runs on DCC

New Digitracs decoders are able to run on dc track acording to Digitracs. This i have never tested before. Your Atlas engine should have a lenz decoder in it. Not all decoders can run on DC track, thats your problem with your second engine.

Now the curcuit board that was replaced was the light board. All light functions go through the decoder now. Most of the decoder functions do not work in DC so that could explain your light problem.

I do not know about the engine surge because i have never tryed my DCC engines on dc before. I have read that the engine with the Digitracs decoder should work the same as a dc engine when on dc power.
