No, the customer is NOT always right... Witness these two messages on a $8 item with free shipping recently posted (and sold to someone else): 1) Hi. I would be a buyer of the train at $5 if you would consider lowering the buy it now price. Thanks for your consideration. I am located in (location deleted). 2) Hi. I just emailed you. I see you have other items. If there was a lot of train cars that could be assembled, I'd be interested in meeting up to purchase them all at once. I am in (location deleted but ~300 miles away) Let's see-- geography challenged, wants to pay a price that results in a net loss for the seller, and thinks the seller has nothing to do but drive 300 miles for a $5 per car sale. The only thing this "customer" won was a spot on the coveted Blocked Buyer List. "What d'ya think I am, dumb or somethin'?!?" - Lina Lamont, Singin' in the Rain
I get very tired of that sort of thing too. Post something for sale and a day after someone contacts me to say that they'll pay $X. I always respond that "I plan to allow the bid process to take its course" and I rarely hear from them again. Inevitably the item sells for much more than $X. I too have blocked a number of eBay users that took irritation to a new level.
One thing we know as fact, is the arrival and progress of that site has produced a LOT to talk about!
I will raise the possibility that they were the ones who were going to make the trip and were hoping that you would cut them a deal for the effort. However, I've seen enough idiocy on eBay to make this suggestion more questionable than how you interpreted it.
and some guy who wants to low ball you on a sale like that...and drive 300 miles to pick it up..you at least need a .45 with safety off, plus a backup in the trees when this person shows up. BTDT, and you have no idea how fast things calm down when the person hears a slide rack 20 feet away in the trees.
I'd shoot my eye out, Scalecraft. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming, already in progress... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lone-Star-D...ontinetal-Diesel-nice-condition-/271923150582 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Kato-N...-3-Engines-11-passenger-car-set-/111778227235
Very true, but the re-releases satisfy those who "just want a CZ set" and are relatively indifferent to the specific car names. To me this is similar to when another manufacturer (Atlas, Micro-Trains, etc.) reprints a freight car with the same paint scheme with only a different road number. There's a certain percentage of model rails who want the paint scheme; the road number isn't important.
Neither the CZ set nor the CB&Q Locos qualify as "rare". And obviously that price is relying entirely on that inappropriate "rare".
It's all relative. All N Scale (even rail joiners) are RARE compared to the number of water molecules on Earth. And of course now I've given away a secret to those "wonderful" sellers out there. On the other hand, a quick search reveals that as of the moment this has been written, only 322 of the 91,518 listings on eBay under N Scale include the word "rare" in the title. I did not bother to check the number of these listings that were for High Speed Diesels in Southern Pacific. But this one is VERY RARE: just ask the seller! http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHURCH-VERY-RARE-N-SCALE-BUILT-UP-DETAILED-CHOOCHOOCITY-/262064634691 No wait, this one's better. If it's so RARE how do you have four of them?!? http://www.ebay.com/itm/lot-n-scale...ons-box-cars-new-rare-life-like-/271995739012
Continuing on "RARE"... Oh, no, I shouldn't have scrolled down that far. Now I need to lay down for a while and/or find chocolate. Don't say I didn't warn you. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Southern-Pa...Box-Car-Tanker-Car-N-scale-RARE-/181828876745 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atlas-N-Scale-PIER-SET-RAILWAY-25-Piece-Kit-MIB-60-RARE-/110620622348 http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-BACHMA...-Hopper-Car-53-1005-02-FREE-S-H-/200977337235 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Athearn-N-S...illboard-Connecticut-Rare-10357-/330799955488 http://www.ebay.com/itm/KO-G-KANSAS-OKLAHOMA-GULF-BOX-CAR-N-SCALE-AHM-RARE-/200826340889 http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-A...FIC-RAILROAD-UP-300620-FREE-S-H-/200994687329
In excellent condition ,you just need to reassemble it and hope there is no missing parts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atlas-RS-3-...N-Scale-MIB-/141788248946?hash=item21033cfb72
Thing could be worse. I sold some RC car items I had a few years ago and got really funny/ stupid messages ( these bidders seemed more rude/ tactless than train guys) One item I was selling $5.95 free shipping ,I was asked if I would accept $ 2.50 a price that was lower than my shipping cost.
What up with all the resent buyer who win the bid and then, don't pay. Really, if your going to bid have the money to pay and pay, its freaking annoying. I have a few thing I sold recently and some of this bidder don't want to pay. You try to contact them and nothing.
They just want to see how high they can run the bidding. Probably have one themselves to sell, and they can point to that auction and say "SEE?"
This is where the lack of ability for a seller to post negatives, so the public is warned, really hurts.
Looks like some inbred fool has BID on it!! LMAO!!!!!! Carmine, Owner, Creator, CEO & Bottle Washer... The Pacific Belt RR, in HO Scale Since 1975!
