several of the cars actually are scale, this high speed TOFC is identical to the Atlas one right next to it, only mod was to add MT trucks. IIRC, the caboose and tank car were also, but the bolster on the chassis needed to be filed down to lower the body
Not really humor... but this auction for a train layout, starting at a dollar, will be interesting to watch. I'm not sure but I think this looks like one of the Atlas plans. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Train-layou...d=100041&prg=8646&rk=2&rkt=9&sd=360796733529& If I were a reasonable driving distance from the pick-up location, I'd consider bidding, but I'm not, so I won't.
Not a bad looking layout except for those old school Atlas switches. Those things are just too toyish looking for me.
You could get a replacement, today: I just saw this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Ove...520037?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item19e58ebfa5 Considering the original MRSP was eight-hundred, and some, I think this fits into the category of on sale now, for twice the regular price, thanks to the magic of Ebay. Time left: 15h 20m 11s On the same subject, of the SD40-2s, though I just managed to get two for $75.00 at a local train show. And, as for the overpriced GP30s, the highest I believe I paid for my three was $65.00, and one of those was a custom renumbered unit.
Just closing out this item... it sold for $305.00 with 26 bids from 7 different bidders. It seems like a good deal to me, certainly better than other layouts listed out there at present.
This one made me smile: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bachmann-N-...el_RR_Trains&hash=item27db8b6be2#ht_367wt_882 Of course it comes with free shipping but I passed on one at $100 and snagged one at $81.00. Even the online E-tailers have them for about $160-ish.
Ummmm, I think this is the wrong type of train? http://www.ebay.com/itm/From-the-Wa...995674?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2c7811d55a
As long as it's N scale, you make an interesting scene with it. I just noticed this listing: it's not so much humorous because of the price, but because of the imagination someone must have had to built a bunch of their own freight cars. It kind of almost has a type of John Allen feeling of humour to it, and he could probably have spun a good yarn for a lot of cars like these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-SCALE-SET...394070?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item19e606e596
Sure isn't N scale, and doubtful if Fleischman. Might be OK in the background, if modeling in OO scale. But most folks in that scale aren't North American prototype, so it would sure look odd in a European theme.
Probably too "unique" for 99.999999% of folks out there. On a swap meet table, the few dollars these would actually bring in....
Agreed. Some pretty interesting pieces there. I think one of the loads was commercially available from Laserkits (the machine-y looking thing at the top of the assemblage).
A nice counter to some of the overpriced "beautiful" layouts out there... I think this one really is nice, and well executed. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Christmas-S...429638?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item4179ecb2c6
It wound up selling for $1,225 plus shipping, which was showing as $300 for me. The layout is 36 x 52 inches which would cost a pretty penny to ship given the size and the fragility of the layout. It is very cool though!
Just to show that humor is not limited to that Internet Auction Community... http://www.amazon.com/Jersey-Citys-...86615240&sr=8-8&keywords=railroad+car+journal I've recently met the author, and I believe that these are still available at original list price, which is not quite that high (as in, it's $14.95)...
Oath of Office Car - Sold Not really humor but I sold a Presidential Oath of Office car yesterday for MUCH higher than I thought I would. I put an "I almost don't want to sell it price" on it and somebody bought it. I did include free expedited, insured, signature required shipping and factory air. That's going to make a big dent in funding Christmas this year.
