Someone's getting a good payout for this lil' steamer! Why anyone would ever want to pay more than 30 for that is beyond me, especially used, double especially when eBay is loaded with identical items through Buy it Now for less than half!! Maybe they replaced the frame on this one with gold or something and I just dont know about it.
Simple....bidding war between two inexperienced buyers. One with 15 feed back, the other with 22. Too bad that the loco retails brand new for $80.00 and sells discounted around $50 or less. Why don't those people ever show up when I sell stuff.
You've gotta be kidding me!!!! I wouldn't even pay 80 for my Ultimate 4-4-0, and not to sound too arrogant, but I know mine will run circles around the stock 4-4-0. (proof) I remember buying my 4-4-0 brand new from Caboose Hobbies in Denver for 25 bucks probably 15 years ago.
15 years is a lot of inflation and price increases ago. I think at that time they retailed for $35.00. The latest ones do run much better than the loco's from 15 years ago so yours probably runs about the same as a brand new one. I have one that is a year or so old, came back from Bachmann after I pulled my original out and the traction tires had self destructed and one of the tender trucks was mangled. I figured it was worth $15 to get a new one. It runs great and I have no complaints.
15 years seems kind of quick for a 230% inflation rate. Also, isn't the cost of manufacturing supposed to go down as new technology is introduced? If they could produce and sell the 4-4-0 15 years ago for 35 bucks when today it would cost 80, heck, I'd forget about today's manufacturing techniques and stick with the old ways!
According to the Consumer Price Index, 35 dollars in 1995 is equal to just 50 today, not 80. Sounds like B is pulling a fast one on their current retail price for the 440. Oh well. I've got mine, it runs great. I'll stop complaining now.
IMHO, this is a piece of junk that got sold for way over what it is worth. No matter how attractive we try to make the sale, it is a dog from the word go. Hasn't anyone told either of these bidders they could get a Kato Mikado for less? duhhhhhhhhh As PT Barnum said..................... Ken "FloridaBoy" Willaman
One for the price of two! KATO 126-0211A USRA 2-8-2 Steam Locomotive Heavy Mikado - eBay (item 370385566698 end time Jul-22-10 12:33:20 PDT) PLUS you get a sweet deal on shipping. 15 big ones on top of the buy it now price!
I've always found the price of Kato's U.S. prototypes in Japan about the same as we pay for it in Australia, ie: up to twice the US price, while the Japanese prototypes are about half the price they are here, I guess Kato are protecting their US subsidiary. So his price isn't too surprising. His prices do seem a bit higher than elswhere but a quick glace at his Micro-Ace stock he appears to have a few things that are sold out at other dealers. For price comparison he has a Japanese C62 4-6-4. KATO 2019-1 Steam Locomotive C62 No.18 N Scale - eBay (item 370394761522 end time Jul-10-10 20:40:27 PDT)
I think we had a failure to communicate. I agree that the Kato's U.S. items are usually higher priced in Japan. When I said I was going to give that guy a pass, I meant that I wasn't going to complain about the high price because of the circumstances, unlike some of the other sellers who I think should know better. Besides, I have the Kato Mike and the C62 anyway.
This Doesn't look right. http://cgi.ebay.com/Model-Power-N-S...ewItem&pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item588876d41a
Well, it sure isn't an F40. I've never had one of their FM C-Liners so I can't comment on how they run. As for the seller, judging by the feedback I would say that the seller has an eBay consignment store and sells everything so they might only know what they were told.
It's not Model Power either, they were made by Rivarossi and sold by Atlas. This is about the nicest thing Spookshow has to say about them. "Frankly, this is a pretty terrible locomotive."
Are you talking the 2 axle/3 axle configuration? I am not sure I have ever see that...hmmmm. :tb-wacky: .
It is a "B-A1A" configuration. The "B" truck is under the front of the unit, and has two powered axles. The "A1A" truck is under the back of the unit, and has one powered axle, one idler axle, and one more powered axle. Examples include some of the FM C-liners most passenger units built from 1950–1955, and the EMD FL9. Gary
