I can't wait to get a pair of SD40-2's for myself. I just have to wait untill the UNDEC variety comes out. A pair with the CN Safety Cab will be BEAUTIFUL. But in the meantime the folks along the WVRR would feel uneasy if they were to loose the venerable pair of GP9's they've become accustomed to over the years. There are still lots of places to run smaller power. Dave ------------------ Dave Winter Owner/Operator Winter Valley Regional Railway

Dave, I've seen already different pictures of your models and they are very, very good!! How did you paint your locomotives? I was a bit in doubt about the SD40, should I have one undecorated for my company the"Emerald Valley RR" or not. I thought that the SD40 was a to big locomotive for the EVRR and thus I ordered them in CSX. Paul ------------------ Paul Van Herwegen Rappannahock Terminal Railway
Paul Thanks for the nice coments. The GP9's were an UNDEC pair. (I tried removing a manufactures paint scheme before and I'll never do that again.) The WV design is the same one I used for 25+ years in N Scale. I ran a lot of GP9's then as well as three SD40's and a pair of SW-2100RS types. CN would interchange with pretty much the same power. I'll see if I have a picture. The painting itself was routine. I used an airbrush and Tamiya acrilic paint. Hard to use but it had the right "look". White first and then I masked the ---WV--- and did the green. All of the accoutrements; the bell, horn, winterization hatch, airlines, MU standand spark arresters etc, are of the CN variety. I have drawings of SD40-2(W)'s in WVRR colours and they sure are tempting but this is NOT N Scale. I think 40-50 car trains are out of the question in my yard. I'll stick with GP9's, and an RS3 perhaps, and do the larger power in CN "zebra stripes" for when I travel to other, larger layouts. Thanks again for the nice words. ------------------ Dave Winter Owner/Operator Winter Valley Regional Railway
Wanted to commend you on the photos of your geeps. I understand (because I also do HO) what you are saying about removing mfr paint schemes. You did a really super job. I am lucky because I do Santa Fe (but not red and silver geeps) so I don't have much to change. Keep up the good work. Bob Miller Garden & Santa Fe Rwy Kansas City
Ah, the green. Well it's not the same green as I used in N Scale. I know this is going to get the blood boiling amoungst the purests in the crowd, but colours, no matter how official, MUST be adjusted for scale. Just like the white on CN engines isn't white but the "grey" looks just awfull in HO Scale. HO needs a whiter kind of grey. The "traditional" WV green used on the N Scale engines (and rolling stock and buildings etc etc) for about 25 years was selected to look buseness like and still show off the tiny 1/160 details. On 1/29 engines the old green was rather bright and toy like. After much research I found a dark, richer green that has that "heavy equipment" look. In the "big picture" out in the yard or on the indoor layout, the green colour is the same as it has always been. Actually, although you may not be able to tell in the photo, the green is very close to the darker BC Rail green.
