Tileguy- Is this the museum that has a 2-8-8-2 on display? Intact? (Wishful thinking that there was an operating example. Would be fantastic to see in action today!!!) Is there a web site? Boxcab E50
You know to tell the truth i cant remember.there is alot of steam there. There is for sure a DM&IR 2-8-8-0 up in proctor about 6 miles away though.Ive climbed on that one a few times in my day Back when i was a kid i lived in proctor and used to go down to the yard to watch the malleys steam ore.(yard security could never catch me,they would just go to my house and tell my parents"your kids in trouble"
Yes there is a 2-8-8-2 in there. At one time you could push a button and the drivers would turn around a few times. It would be nice if they could take the few DM&IR 2-8-8-2s and build one that worked.
Here you go Ken and howdy you two Minnesota boys http://www.lsrm.org/ Here is a Yahoo E Group to go along with this one: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LSRM/ [ 15. April 2003, 22:20: Message edited by: LadySunshine ]
Thanks For the Links Ms Lady Sunshine(& the howdy ) So i am blessed with a couple regulars in here from the great north.Where do ya'll hang your hats. I myself am parked about a block and a half of the old GN mainline a few miles out of Grand Rapids.Lots of rolling Pumpkins come by along with a Few Soo line drags.
I hang my hat down here at Marshall, Minnesota and waiting for the leaves to grow on the trees before I go out on our BNSF line to go out rail fanning.
Yes. I would love to see a 2-8-8-2 under steam! I have heard a couple of brief sound tracks and they sound fantastic! Barb- Thanks for the Link! If anyone here can find 'em, its' you! Boxcab E50
Well when it hits 90+ down south Barb, Cmon up where we have some natural airconditioning.Duluth -Superior is a railfanners delight.Lots of Action in the twin ports. One of my favorites is watching a DM&IR Drag struggling with the grade up to Proctor. As close as we get to appalachian coal country around these parts Proctor has an old 2-8-8-0 with Vandy tender Cloquet has an old 2-8-0 D&NE on display Two Harbors has another 2-8-0 Biwabik has yet another 2-8-0 And on occasion you can catch a Glimpse of the old GP Hustle Muscle BN running around in green livery.
Todays the Big Day, I'm headed out to spend some money.Got my Cargo pants on with lots of Pockets and i/m gonna see if i can fill em all Have a great wekend all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well it was a pretty Fair show.there were 9 differant Ntrack clubs there with some nicely done layouts and a few older kinda beat up ones.I managed to find a few good buys. One thing that was extremely interesting was a yellowstone 1 1/2" gauge live steam engine that was all hand built. It took the guy 31 years to build it at about 1000 hours per year. Many of the parts had to be specially fabricated etc.It was a beautiful piece and sat on its own trailer with a plexiglass dome over the entire thing. And For any of you who are interested, Its FOR SALE!!!! Price Tag--$2,500,000.00(yes that's million) Anybody wanna Pitch in CHA CHING!!!!!
