Hello everyone, this is my first post to Trianboard.com. I am planning to convert to Micro-train trucks on all my Atlas n scale cars. I would like to use the trucks with the “low profile” wheels. I know MT sells #1037-1, which is a Barber Roller bearing truck with low profile wheels and medium extension couplers. They also sell a #1037-10 bulk pack. Is this pack a set of #1037-1 trucks with low profile wheels or #1037 trucks? Also, how much spacing between cars will the medium extension couplers create? This will be the first time I have used MT products.

No the bulk packs don't come in lo-pro yet.
The medium extention truckes are good for getting the look of cushioned under-frames on modern equip.

Hello Mark, welcome to Trainboard [IMG]

It is rather frustrating that we cannot get bulk packs with low-profile wheelsets, but have to spend extra cast to convert them
I wish that low-pro wheels were supplied as standard, and the huge-flanged ones available as replacements . The difference in appearance on cars, particularly things like gons, tank cars, spine cars, etc. is very noticable. Surely the time has come to make low-pro wheels the "standard"?

    Mark,
    Welcome aboard!
Alan is right about the looks of the low profile wheel sets on many cars. You should get a set of M/T 1035's and compare them to the 1037's. That way, you can see the differences in how close the cars will couple. Think you will find that you will use just as many of each type as you convert your cars.

    Hi Kjell, welcome to trainboard.

Red Caboose makes unimate knuckle couplers in 3 different lengths, that replace the Rapido coupler on most rolling stock. These are dummy couplers, but are fairly inexpensive.

Most of the better online retailers carry them, or you can get them direct from RC.

On page 22 of the June Model Railroader, Micro-Trains has an ad for low profile wheels. They are sold in packs of 100 in either brown or black ($24.95/pack). On the same page, they have a product review of Inter Mountain’s ACF 100 ton covered hopper kit. It is a really nice model (etched brass running boards and many fine details), but $14.95 a kit isn’t cheap!

Sorry to revive this old post, but I just got 3 sets of 1037-1 MT trucks from N Scale Supply. Total cost was about $20.00 (including shipping and handling). I haven't installed them yet (going on Atlas 3 bay covered hoppers), but they look great! The low profile wheels really make a difference in overall appearance. This will be the first time I have used MT products and am looking forward to installing them. Anyone have install tips? Next on my shopping list is the MT starter kit with their height gauge and lubricant.
