I recently came by a box of Marx HO thinking it would be regular 027 Marx.

I have little use for it.

Is this stuff collectable or desirable for use on opperating layouts?

I have a price guide but haven't priced the individual peices yet but I expect these to be about 3 to 5 bucks each at least if anyone collects them.

How about a head's up on what to do with this stuff? Sell, trade or store it away?

If I keep themmaybe I can get an engine.

Any ideas on finding a Marx HO steamer?

    Thanks,

As collectables, they aren't worth much. However, please DON'T toss them. If someone wants or needs them, great. If not, I would take them to keep them from being destroyed.

As for steamers. the only HO Marx steamers that I have ever seen is a small 0-4-0 saddle tank switcher (shunter).

Why would I want them? I display them from time to time at NMRA Meets to show newcomers where the hobby came from. Some day, people will realize that Marx did make HO and it was a good product for its time (late 50s, early 60s) :)

You can never be sure what some of those older trains are worth. A few years ago, I acquired a box of older HO: Lionel, American Flyer, and Marx. Included was a complete Marx set of 0-4-0 switcher with tender (?), hopper, tank car, and caboose, still in the plastic liner, plus some track and a power pack. I listed it on eBay three years ago, expecting to get $50 or so. It sold for $205!!!! I'm not sure that any of your individual cars will come that high, but you may easily get $5 apiece for them. Who knows?

By the way, I only paid $25 for that box of HO trains, and probably sold everything for $400. :D
