Mars Lights? In reading the owners manual for my DCC system it talks about the functions and setting up the CV's properly for Mars Lights, ditch lights, etc.

For the Mars Lights.. how does that work? Programming the decoder seems simple enough.. but what about the actual light? Lamp? Who makes the lights to fit various engines and exactly ... mechanically... how does it rotate on such a small scale? OR... is it just a means of controlling a normal lamp in a way by the decoder where it flashes around like a Mars light?

I want to set up some of my F units w/ the things but wanna be sure what the heck I am doing before I start fussing around w/ the decoders.

    Thanks...

The decoders in question simulates the appearance of a mars light using a normal bulb. I would recommend you not use an LED for this function. The light doesn't flash it goes from bright to dim and then back to bright to simulate the rotation. LEDs don't fade in and out as well as a regular bulb.

I have done all of my SP F units with the mars light. It looks pretty good but not great.
