I created some red, yellow and green apple trees and a pair of plum trees for my module. I orginally was going to use out of the box Noch apple tree, but I didn't like the way they looked because they were too large for Z, better suited for N scale and the size of the N scale apples on the Noch trees looked like Z scale pumpkins. So I used JTT ECONO DECIDUOUS TREE TR-2025 Zscale 1" to 2" 6/pk PROXXON 110V Rotary Tools I pressed down the branches on the trees to make them look more like apple trees dabbed on white glue sprinkled on red, gold, green and purple tiny glass beads by Hallcraft USA, Inc. Mt. Vernon, NY 10550 (I bought them on ebay since no one seems to carry them any more) depending on the type of tree I was making - here it red John
and then once dried I sprayed the entire tree with Testors Dull Cote to reduce the "shinneyness" of the glass beads. Took me less than an hour to do 18 trees. I will "plant" the rest of the trees this weekend. John
Sorry folks - here is the correct link to the JTT ECONO DECIDUOUS TREE ECONO DECIDUOUS TREES Not sure how the PROXXON 110V Rotary Tools link got in there. John
Very good looking John, I have such glas balls in stock, bought it in Germany, from Knorr (not soupes!) Also suitable to make Chrismas trees, next winter is coming resent:
Nice trees. I can understand scale size when related to fruit trees or trees you associate with some mature size. Never thought of that. Normally, I just consider trees to be big or small, regardless of scale.
Jürg, Yes but they are a lot less expensive and take up less room than an AZL and FR collection! John
Robert - I totally agree. Would definately work. Orange trees are more "round" in shape from apple trees, correct? If so you can totally skip the step of pressing down the branches. Armand - Do you have the contact information and web site link for I Knorr in Germany so we all can purchase more of these tiny glass balls? John
beautiful trees, john. be sure to add a few under the tree (even brownish or yellowish, as they rot). and what is that building next to it? very nice! dave f.
Hi John, Not easy to find them in the catalogs, but here they are : http://www.knorrprandell.com/Conten...erarchy=99&org=E3-005006&gesorg=;E1-50;E2-005
Robert, Check out the Halcraft USA site: Marbles and Marbles Seems they carry a medium Orange Tiny Marbles Sku #83428 and a Orange Very Tiny Marbles Sku #83482. Guess it depends on how big you like your oranges to be. John
(I think there should be no problem to recolorize the yellow to orange, there is such dip-liquid for electric bulbs, and exist in orange, this should work on glas.) before you posted the link ;-)
Tamiya Tamiya has the clear Orange you are talking about. #X-26 Clear Orange You can find it at most hobby shops and Hobbytown. Hobo Tim
Would depend in part on the variety of orange tree you have and maybe whether you are modeling them full of fruit or not. I know that a couple of the varieties that we have get a lot of branch sag when they are really full of fruit, almost to the point of resembling big mushrooms. Without fruit they are pretty round and you can generally walk under the lower branches. When they are ready for harvest the branches can bend down and touch the ground. It may be they we don't have our trees pruned as compact as commercial groves up north, or it may just be the local varieties. Regards Ed
John, this is exactly what I been looking for. If I am going to start a juice train, I better have some oranges.
