    Flash,

Thanks! That is an N scale bridge that Jim O'Connell cut down to Z for me when he created the layout base and track work for me. I painted and weathered it.

I remember that bridge. I considerate one of my finest kitbash accomplishments. Right up there with kitbashing Randgust's Climax from N to Z. Many hours and hours of fun building it. Your weathering and paint looks great. Jim:tb-biggrin:

The LIRR tug MEITOWAX is done! I started this project sometime in Sep/Oct 2010 and just finished it today 6 Apr 2012. There was a lot of down time doing research, waiting for special parts to arrive, walking away from the project to take a mind break when I hit modeling brick walls, figuring out how to kitbash or stratchbuild parts and finding new photos of the tug and therefore having to make corrections to the model. This had to be THE biggest challenge that I have undertaken to date for my layout.

MEITOWAX was one of the Indian tribes on Long Island. Long Island appears by this name on Dutch maps from about 1631 to about 1775 (see http://www.matouwac.org/)

The tug started out as a Joe D'Amato wonderful tug boat which is now carried as a Nansen Street Model item.

Time for a mini-vacation for Easter then on to some easier parts of the layout.

    Enjoy,

    John

You captured the look very well! Keep on with the great job. I enjoy seeing the prototype photo's to compare. That railroad barge in the last proto pic is just neat as all get.

    John,
your layout is coming every day a bit more alive. Can't wait to see it finished (if a layout ever can be finished...)! The tug is great and needs some good weathering. As Joe said, the last prototype picture with the 2 barges is fantastic.

    Hi John,
Soon you'll be able to take pictures of them. :) I hope to have them done till the end of this week.
I'm very happy to see one of my trucks on your layout!

    Cheers,
    João

After one LONG month I finally completed the scene around the abandoned factory across the siding from the West Chemical factory. I created a scene that has the building in it’s early stages of demolition. I used a long dump truck, back hoe and crane from Savonart. I modified the crane by adding an N scale wrecking ball from Railway Express Miniatures, and I cut and repositioned the arm of the back hoe to give it a realistic pose as if it was dumping items into the dump truck. The most challenging and most time consuming part of the entire process was the scenery and the junk around the entire section. I love junk and in urban railroad modeling you need a lot of it. I still have more to add like figures but for the most part the scene is complete. Next I will begin to work on the Morris Park area, the Penny Bridge scene and the Cavalry Cemetery section.

    Enjoy,

    John

John it is excellent! What a great scene!!! I love the junk. There is a lot of eye candy here. Definitely a scene one can explore for some time.

Most excellent! A very credible scene. It actually looks like my factory about 10 years into the future.

Looks good John. I like your roads very much. Where did the fence come from?

    Thanks all!

Jim - Next is the completion of the Morris Park area (concrete, blacksmith shop, water tower and dinner).

JoeS - If you mean the wooden picket fence then that came with the abandoned building which I bought on eBay last year.

John, great job! The details are super, incredible for Z scale. HO gives me a hard enough time, Outstanding work! Were were you able to find any more photos of the Morris Park diner?

    No Door Light,

Thanks! Nope, I haven't been able to find any additional photos of Morris Park diner so I guess I just have to used artistic liberties. The diner may just be the next project I work on.

Isn't that tank car full of who knows what a little close to the demolition job? I realize that just the brick walls are coming down, but jeez! :)
