Hey guys, I have an Atlas MP15 with a DCC decoder that has given me nothing but problems. It's almost 2am and the headache it has given me tonight won't even let me sleep. Is there anyone on this board, or any websites you could point me to that do good repairs at reasonable prices? I know some of the sites that mill frames of older models but that's about it. In the off chance someone has a working MP15 who doesn't want it anymore let me know as well. My CSX body would fit well on your operating, but unused frame :) Please point me in the right direction, as you guys have so far with all my problems :)

Agreed. I've sent locos in a few times, never a charge, because they were newer, I guess, like your MP15. Just write them a clear friendly note, sit back, and wait.

Same here, Atlas has done good by me. I picked up an Alco RS3 at a show and it would barley run. Sent it to Atlas and it was reparied/replaced within a few weeks.

Even if I most likely messed something up when putting in the decoder? I don't think it was Atlas's fault. But with that, I would just mail it to them and they'll do the repair and pay return shipping no questions asked? Also, the decoder is not made by them, so would they install it and make sure it works or would they put in the original analog board? If you guys still think they'll do it I'll gladly send it on its way!

What's wrong with the decoder? Does the loco light up, but doesn't respond to commands when the power is on?

It would probably be best if you emailed them, explain the problem(s), and ask them what your options are.

Powersteam - I posted a time or 2 asking for help a few weeks back. Here it goes, I'll try to keep it short.

After not doing the hobby for 10-15 years the bug bit me and I got the MP15 and a TCS decoder from BLW. I ordered a Zephyr elsewhere and the engine came first. I never tested the loco as a DC before I took it apart and put in the decoder. Then the Zephyr came and I got track from the LHS and bam - it did nothing. No lights, nothing. Realizing then, "OHHH, I test it DC first, THEN put in the decoder." So to try and remedy the problem I took out the decoder and tried to reinstall the original board. With the original board in the lights come on but it does not move. Later I got a pair of SD60Ms equipped with DCC cuz I just KNEW my installation was the reason the engine didn't work. But out of the box one ran and one didn't. And the one that runs does not allow me to change any settings in any mode. I can only type in 03 and move it back and forth.

I've emailed Atlas already about the SD60Ms. I didn't mention the MP15, I guess because I assumed that it would be pretty obvious that I messed something up on my own. With the SDs I know nothing is my fault, it could be a simple fix to some or all of you guys, but I have problems even getting the body shells off! Toying with locos is not what I like about the hobby, I prefer my locos to just work right out of the box, mostly b/c of the high price. When I posted my problems before some people suggested to get a Kato and install my own decoder. I may return the SDs to BLW in exchange for a pair of Kato SD70s, they don't have much else in CSX paint in stock.

IF after I email Atlas with the MP15 problem and they say that they will do the repair for a fee, should I still stick with them or go independent and get it done with a one man operation where I can probably have phone contact with the person doing the repair? Looks like most sites charge about $40/hr for repairs/DCC installations.

I swear everything would be dandy if I just had ONE engine that ran correct. I've got almost $300 in Unitrack coming to start laying out the plan for my door layout but I guess I'll be using my fingers to push my rolling stock around :(
