You will need to look around. I haven't seen one yet myself. I did see the WP 4-8-2 and it was a good looking model, and so was the price. If I remember right it was around $1,100.00. I can't imagine the bigboy going for less than 2k, seems that was the going price I was quoted. Have you seen one?

Not yet but I visited a local shop (Hunting, Fishing and Train shop) and I saw one in their catalogs. Didnt show a price but I think he said around $400.00 for one, which is a great price!

Are you thinking of the K-Line semi-scale being offered? I saw that one in the catalog and if it does look as nice as the picture it will be a good deal.

I think so, I think its the K-line series, I also found a price for the MTH Premier series:

Item: 4-8-8-4 Big Boy Steam Engine w/Proto
Catalog: AK "Spring 1997 - U.P. Big Boy"
    Product Line: Premier
    Item Number: 20-3021-1
    Roadname: Union Pacific
    Original MSRP: $1395

Cab No. 4012 Features: Constant Voltage Headlight, Detailed Cab Interior w/Figure, Lited Marker Lamps, Fire Box Glow, Pittman Motor w/Flywheel, 2 Cab Numbers, Proto Sound-Coupler-Smoke

Almost 1400 to get it, but I might get this one next year, MTH makes a fine quality product but the price is out of this world. Only problem is, when I do get it I cant exactly run it except on a board with straight track. I need a bigger house with a bigger basement, maybe shouldve stayed down in Maryland. Had a big basment down there, but had to move to PA last April.

If my memory serves me correctly MTH "Mikes Train House" makes a Big Boy.. But I'd bet money its $3,000 or more. I've seen his Challenger and it was a great looking loco along with his Allegheny as well but the detail one MTH's Allegheny is nothing compared to the Rivarossi detail on theirs....
