Has anyone heard when or even if Life Like is going to introduce their (currently in Canada) C424 to the US ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Bill-

I saw this question a while back somewhere. But it didn't get any response then. I've not heard mention of it coming here. Although I did see a US mail order outfit that custom paints having one in SP&S on their web site.

I suppose there are some slight visual spotting differences in the Canadian prototype, versus US?

If LL did one in SP&S, I'd be quite tempted!

I was under the impression, from back when this was first announced, that this was a Hobbycraft/Life-Like Canada-only project and that none would be done for American roads.

I'd imagine BLW (the hobby store offering the SPS units, and one of the few US shops selling the models) took some of whatever road they had the most of, and repainted them. I can't see them using undec models as those were in high demand to begin with, even without a hobby store hording them for their own use.

Manufacturers are now producing runs of locos that had smaller total numbers in prototype. Seems as though we could raise our hopes that N scalers would get C424 & 425 one of these days.

I've got one of these units (CP of course). It's a good little runner although I am somewhat disappointed about the distance beween the trucks and the body. :D

    Thanks all!
I went in and checked out the BLW site, and sure enough I found them, even a WAB.......albeit a bit pricey.

Grant.....did you mean out of scale, or not to prototype? The spacing between the fuel tank and trucks did seem a little wide. Could you tell me how much they are in Can$ ? I'm close to the border, and might be able to go and get some.

    Ken........they had the SP&S unit you want.....maybe Santa ???

Brent.....Hiya stranger! Hope all is well with you. How can we chase down that rumor?

Thanks again to everyone. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can get them someday. I knew about the HO units being available, but was wanting Nscale (but at a reasonable price!!! :D )

By this do you mean that the unit sits too high? If so, am curious about just how much in excess?

I have never had a chance to see one of these in a good side view photo. Could you possibly post a picture of your unit?

I have 2 of these great engines and they are some of my favorites right now. The only pitfall to these is that they are not DCC ready. I have contacted Aztec and they have no plans to offer a milled frame for these.

As far as the spacing above trucks, this was addressed on the Atlas forum months ago and a picture of the prototype showed that the Alcos rode higher on their trucks than their EMD/GE counterparts.

I recently noticed that on the bottom of the fuel tanks, that it says, 'Property of Hobbycraft, Licsenced to LifeLike'. This leads me to beleive that Hobbycraft owns the molds and LL USA has to have an agreement with Hobbycraft to make a run of these.

I currently own a couple of these C424 (every CP and CN version/number available).

Nice looking models even if riding a bit to high on their trucks. Also they're good runners just about like Atlas locos but not as good as Kato.
Just be aware that they're not DCC-ready. As far as I know no one will produce replacement frames. Neither Aztec nor Southern Digital offers any.

Ya' know, you can always switch out the LL trucks for the Atlas trucks. They'll runn alot smoother... [IMG]

The two I have run silky smooth now, I have no need to swap trucks. Something to keep in mind though.

    Thanks,

I was able to get my mits on a few and decided they were close enough for the GBW. But then again, I am only a close enough modeler.

    Hugs,

    Bill,

Looks real good to me. [IMG] Are you going to add numbers to the boards or are they supposed to be white? Great job.

Yeah, I hadn't done the numberboards yet. They were only about 3/4ths completed whenst I photographed them.

I see now that I have got some details on the fuel tanks wrong as well. I will try to modify them soon. Isn't the internet wonderful? Found great online pics of these things so that I might model them more accurately!

Save your praise guys, I'm just a bloke with some undec locos, decals, an airbursh, and a hope!

Thanks for the welcome. But I've been surfing trainboard for about three years. I have been a rather lax surfer of late.

    Cheers,

    Bill
