The Lenz LS150 manual says to use an AC Power supply...

"Power and DCC signal Inputs of the LS150
The LS150 is supplied with power via the AC input (≈). Use a
suitable transformer – we recommend the Atlas Generator.
Warning: AC voltage must be used to supply power to
the LS150. Do not use a DC supply as this can damage
    the LS150."

What AC power supply do you guys recommned other than an Atlas Generator?

    Chris:

The Atlas generator is the ideal power source for the LS-150. If you use another power supply, you must place a 10 ohm resistor in the circuit.

    I would follow Lenz' recommendation.

Stay cool and run steam.....

I don't understand why Lenz did this. With the LS100 you could opt not to use a separate power supply by connecting your bus lines to these connections as well.

This is why I asked this question before purchasing this product and recieved the incorrect information that "NO, a separate power supply is not required, read the manual."

We have a perfectly good AC source sitting there on the bus lines, and now they have to force a more complex arrangement just to control a few twin coil snap switches.

I am going to go against their recommendation and use power from the DCC bus like they did with the LS100, but add short protection resistors on each switch output. If I screw it up, you guys can all learn from my mistake.

    LS150 power problems, me too

    Hutch,
I fretted over this situation too. I have two LS150's throwing 12 peco motors in my yard. I tried using model power 1370 power supplies to power them and I wanted to throw two switches at the same time. WOULD NOT work with one 1370. When I put a second on the other LS150 it worked. Since then, I purchased a 16 volt ac 45 va transformer from Fry's for 10 bucks and it simplified life again for me.

When I get time, I am going to see if I can use one LS150 circuit to power two switches at the same time. I am pretty sure it can as each circuity has the current capacity. It will give me an extra LS150 for my mainline.

The switches really pull more current than anything else on the layout. How did your solution work?

By the way, I follow the progress on your layout, you have alot of progress going there, you keep me incented to try to keep up. I love your trestles!

PS, best I can tell, an atlas generator is nothing more than a transformer.
