All, Now that railroad club layout tour is finished, I’m now able to slowly start working on rebuilding/upgrading the G Scale out front! Plans include replacing Aristo switches with USA Trains all brass. Also updating the wiring! Currently using standard lighting wire. Will be upgrading that to underground, low voltage wire, with heat shrink ring terminals. Also planning to rebuild the weather protected reverse loop toggle switches! Right now, I’m using red and green lamps to indicate which Route is in use. Currently, the lamps are 24V, wired directly to reverse loop toggle. However, the lamp housings are melting from the heat! I’m looking to upgrade those, when toggles are rebuilt. I’m looking to upgrade to 24V LED. Using the following: https://www.mouser.com/new/vcc/vcc-pcl22-indicators/ What I’m needing to know, is will these work directly with a 20VDC track power?? Or do I need to wire in resistors for voltage?? Will be enlarging the box used to house the electronics! So I’ll have room to add extra parts, if required. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.
This type of led indicator is indeed intended for the direct replacemen of incandecent type indicators and as such does not require a dropping resistor. The data sheet does not indicate the voltage range so I am not sure if 20v will work but probably will. Dan
there are two voltage ranges available , 12 volt and 24 volt ... they would have a resistor already built in for this .. if you want to lower brightness [and i recommend this] you would need an additional resistor in series ... most online calculators will give resistance at 20ma, but you can change this once you determine the brightness that you are comfortable with ..
