Hi all, I just thought that I would give you a little update as to what I have been up to lately. First of all, my layout came down over the weekend. I am still working on dis-manteling it but all that is left is the frame for the first part of the table(before we expanded the table). The reason being is that I am moving this coming week and will be building a new layout hopefully starting in September or October. All(or most) of the train stuff is packed into plastic totes and I am taking it over to my mom's fiances house tomorrow since I'll be over there all day anyways so I thought that I would start putting stuff into my cabinets in the shop and organizing my workbench. As for the actual new layout, we are still thinking of how we are going to set it up in the basement. We are thinking about making it around 2 walls and putting it on top of chest high cabinets and maybe extending about 2 feet from the walls. It won't be nearly as big but that might be a good thing because then I can work and concentrate on my details a little more. For layout planning, what software do you guys recommend that doesn't cost a ton of money. I know that there is the right-track software but I am not too thrilled with that. Are there any others out there that I could use? Well that's all for now. I will let you know how my layout plans are coming and when we plan to start on the new layout. Happy railroading. Matt ps... I have started my new train site which should be live sometime shortly after I get back from vacation [ 14. July 2003, 05:29: Message edited by: Matt M ]
Matt- For track planning software, you might look at "XTrkCad." They have a freeware version. (Or at least they did when last I looked.) Their URL: http://www.sillub.com/ Boxcab E50
Matt, I have found that bits of paper and a pencil are sometimes the best things to use. I plan my layouts when I get a couple of mins here and there and then put all the best bits together. If I sit down and try to plan one out then I cant seem to do it........
