What software is everyone using or think is the best? I'm currentlly playing around with XtrkCAD, since it has a unitrack library, along with just about every other manufacturer. I like this on but was wondering if there was one somebody thought was better. Has anyone used 3rdPlanit? how is it?I've also used the Right Track software from Atlas, which is fine if your using Altas track. Anyways any input is apreciated.

I used RTS to design my layout and I won't be using Atlas track. If you're using flextrack it doesn't really matter much about which track library is on the software. I'm finding that I make changes to the plan as I lay it out on the layout anyway. Besides that....you can't beat the price. ;)

I have 3rd PlanIt and like it. I haven't used it in more than a year though as I haven't done any track planning, but I will definitely recommend it, and I think it's worth the money.

I have 3rdPlanit and the plan that I posted on my thrread is drawn with it. Very good investment, and the manual supplied is good , so if you run into problems, you can read the manual for help and hints. Plus there is also a yahoo group for 3rd planit, adios wyatt

I use RTS, it gives you a rough idea and like what was said if you use flex track it doesn't matter. The biggest plus for me was it's FREE so more money for the trains and less for the drawing!!

I have used Cadrail for a number of years and I am very happy with it.

    Hello,

    I use RTS.

I am new to using software for layout planning.

I find it is a useful tool (within its limits) but a great starting point.

I'm not sure I will graduate to a more expensive tool. Mostly I want to get an idea of what will work within my space and for that, the RTS is pretty good. The advantage I have is that it will force me to be more conservative on my expectations. (I wish I had more space. Sigh!)

RTS also has an ideal price - free.

    So, that's my 2 cents.

    Regards,
    Clif
