I bought a partially completed N scale layout to which I plan to add a 36" x 36" loop section. My first idea was to make the loop incircle a logging operation. What better environment for running my two Shays with their logging cars? The tight radius turns could only be negotiated by such rolling stock and power as the log cars and the shays.
But then I read somewhere that if you want to do operations, it was important for the layout to have a staging area.
I have included a drawing of my full layout with a proposed, albeit very unconventional, staging loop added as well as detailed drawings of both loop schemes.
I'd greatly appreciate any comments or advice as to which loop scheme you think would be my best choice. I'd also appreciate any ideas as to what operations would work on this whole layout.

That existing yard at right side could even act as staging.

It is nice if you can have separate staging. This allows you to imagine trains coming from, or going to somewhere, beyond your layout. Makes it all seem a bit larger.

I'm not certain about the proposed loops. They almost feel a bit crammed. A bit too much track.

    Thanks BoxcabE50,
I guess that first attempt was pretty bad. I revised it and included a drawing. How about this version? Would the logging loop work for operations?

Logging is always very popular and workable scheme.
