Here are the designs done by Watash for Mick

I have to say I really like the second plan as it enable double line running around the layout but for operational variations the first design would have added value due to the single line section

    Yes Paul,

The lower plan looks great, the run is fantastic and the difference in elevation should be quite striking. The operational aspects will allow for switching the grain terminal and there is an area for my timber mill.

I have just Emailed Watash and asked him to include an area for my Engine SVC / Sanding facility.

The plan utilises 35 turnouts, which is less than my old layout, so the Treasurer will be pleased. But I will get her back with the two boxes of code 55 concrete flex.

If anyone has any improvements please post.

Wow...what a layout! Are the round things at the left end an industry or part of the room? Also be sure and post photo's of the construction if you can. Watash...wanna try a design for my small N-scale on a 72x30 and 78x30 L-shaped layout? I can't wait to see MRLMick's construction photo's. It's more fun watching someone else do all the work : )

One note: The throat on plan 1 (left side of plan) allows trains access to the main, plan 2 does not. Since I have no idea how to post a drawing, I'm sorry I can't help. If this yard is for staging, then plan 1 is fine. If it is to be a classification yard, you need to arrainge arrival and departure tracks, check the site mentioned in one of the previous posts. Good luck!

The round things on the left are intended to represent a grain handling area, the round things are intended to represent Silo's. I have completed the Bench work, I will Email you the photo's.

Before I get whupped to death wit' da ugly stick, let me point out that the layouts are different. Yes the first is more complete so far as the mill tracks are arranged. The second layout is arranged so you may have one train running continuously while switching long strings in the big yard. This is supposed to allow switching of the timber mill, and small town at the same time by other visiting operators, or operation under Train Orders. I did not pay attention to the mill on this one, because that trackage was already worked out. The second loop with a long through train could enter the big yard at the upper right going counter clockwise, go down the ladder across the through track, crossover to the outer mainline, and up into the mountains, and back. Or it could hit the other crossover at the lower left of the big yard, and out onto the inner loop, come all the way around crossover to the outer loop, up into the mountains, and repeat until you ran out of time. During all this, trains can be broken up, made up all in the big yard without bothering the mainline operatione. Or the mill can be serviced without bothering either of the other two. One guy can run the whole thing, or there is operation for up to four or five operator guests if desired. The engine serviceing facilities could be installed in the added space area gained in front of the mill area.

By the time Mick runs around all of this track, he will probably be single. :D

In2golfz, I didn't design Mick's layout for him, he designed it, and just asked for some suggestions. Yes I could try to help you on yours, email me with what you want to do and HO or N, and some dimensions, like min radius, bench size etc, including distance between yard tracks.
