You will love this answer. i am not modeling any one paticular time frame or area just h aveing fun free lancing. i am leaning toward the nhrr line, which became penn central, then providence & worster rr or conrail(depending where you live) and csx. i have some locos of each of the above. i do not have a track plan, persay, what i started with and what i ended up with are two different animals. i will do my best to describe what i have. the layout is 5x9 ft. the 5 ft side is against a wall (we will call this side a) side b and c will be the 9 ft side. side d is the remianing 5 ft side. where sides a and b meet at the wall i have a "j" 3 foot future layout addition. it goes againts the wall for 10 ft the shoots right for 8 ft and back 8 ft. nothing on it yet just a real long work bench now. on the main layout i have only one main line. on side a there is a rr station on a passing track which is 7 ft long the track the turns onto side d a long the edge of the table, around side b and up a 2% grade to a bridge on side a and then around to side b again only in front of the rr station. the track travels parallel to it self around side c and b where it goes under the bridge and back to the station. side c is the industrial area where i have about 7 turouts. i have a 40 in by 6 ft table against side d which will be my future rail yard. i was thinking of cutting into the main line on side b near the rr station and in the middle of side c in the industrial area and run these into the rail yard. they will travel along the edeg of the table and connect together as a type bypass. off these i want to have turnouts. one side as an assembly area and the other as a loco facility. some how in all this mess i want to have some type of reversing track to turn the locos around. this about sums up my essay hope this will help.
