I have kitbashed a few flat cars and a gondola to small, shorty type cars using HO rolling stock. these things are great for shortline stock as work cars etc. Has anyone else ventured down this road and what have you built? John
Hi John- Not yet.... Which is one reason I'd inquired about R-T-R M2F sized cars in a previous thread. What lengths, and widths do these HO cars scale out to, in O? Boxcab E50
The cars tend to be 18' by 5 '. I put new decking on the flat cars and on the gons. we also have a "tender" for our 0-4-0 from a flat car, built up with a coal bunker of wood. They look pretty good as backwoods cars or work cars on the line. John
I'm currently making plans to put a new superstructure on a Proto SW. There was an article in the Narrow Gauge Gazette a few years ago about this. It loked pretty good. I'm even thinking of putting sound in it. We'll see how it goes. ERIC
Yeah as far as kitbashing motive power there are a lot of HO conversion plans out there. One is using the Proto 0-6-0 tank mechanism for a tank or even 2-6-0 in On30. I have an HO 0-6-0 tank by MDC that I built several years ago but never liked in performance. I may rebuild it in On30 as well as my unbuilt MDC 2-6-0. These projects are down the line a bit for me though... John
Some HO kitbashing to On30 Here are a couple of shots of our kitbashed cars from HO. Also a scratch built gon, unpainted. John
Have you seen the shell being developed by Mocalova Model Works? It's intended to fit on a switcher chassis. Not certain if it would work for a Proto. Maybe check their web site? Boxcab E50
