I have been grilling my Father-in-law about his father and what his dad did when worked for the railroad. He has given me a few things that I have posted here. His primary "job" with the N&W was a baseball pitcher on the company ball team. However, in the off season, they put him to work repairing cars at the shop in Kimball, West Virginia. He worked as a welder and spent most of his time patching coal hoppers. He is shown in the second row, 4th from the left here. This was taken from the hill side opposite the town of Kimball showing the depot, shops and rail yard. I believe this was one of the sections of the N&W that was electrified at the time so that may also be a power station in there too.
I don't think I would want your grandpa-in-law staring me down from the mound... Nice pictures, though. Thanks for sharing them! The hillside shot of the yard gives me some good ideas for my next layout!
